Gay Bingo is hosted by the legendary Margie Fischer (co-founder of Feast Festival and arts organisation Vitalstatistix) and the naughty but nice Shaun Lane. The beautiful Slayer and Marcella are on hand, offering their drag queen talents - including an entertaining performance at interval.
Mylk Bar offers comfortable and ample seating, with a variety of menu options to accommodate guests during Gay Bingo. Being a Sunday, there's usually plenty of free, on-street parking available nearby.
The beautiful Slayer (before she turned into murderous Mrs Lovett)
The night my friends and I attended, Slayer entertained us with her drag performance to the song The Worst Pies in London (as performed by Helena Bonham Carter in Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street). Slayer was the perfect epitome of the murderous Mrs Lovett - complete with a realistic looking severed hand!
I'd recommend Gay Bingo at Mylk Bar to people who don't identify as LGBTIQ (as well as those who do) but be warned - it's not for the faint-hearted - Shaun Lane does some pretty naughty bingo-calls, accompanied with very risque clips!
Naughty but nice Shaun Lane in action
Gay Bingo is an affordable night out - $10 will buy you a book of Bingo games and never fear if you've never played Bingo before, as you'll receive plenty of guidance. Beware if you call a false Bingo - players who do this end up wearing a glitzy toilet seat until the next false Bingo call!
This glitzy toilet seat is the perfect fashion accessory!
In addition to Bingo, there's a 1 in 10 chance of winning a prize on Spin The Wheel ($1 per ticket) and a free mini-quiz which runs throughout the night. I won an admit 2 movie pass and many other players won Fringe tix and movie passes as part of the prizes. Once again, beware - there are some 'naughty' prizes too (such as designer men's lingerie)!
More about Queer Youth Drop-In: Queer Youth Drop-In is a non-government and not-for-profit program based at Experience Café (13 Hutt Street, Adelaide). The program offers young people aged 15-25yo, who are identifying as LGBTIQ a welcoming social space to drop-in on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month, between 6pm-9pm and be supported by two Drop-In Coordinators. Margie Fischer is the program's mentor and offers a wealth of experience, compassion and support.
