The newly redeveloped Gawler Civic Centre located on the main street of Gawler was officially opened in April 2019. The new Civic Centre is an integration of two State Heritage listed buildings, namely The Institute and The Town Hall. A modern entrance hallway connects the two buildings.

We recently took a guided tour of the building and were very impressed with how the old structure was architecturally integrated with the new.

In The Institute Building there is a hall, seating gallery and Council Chambers.

The new Civic Centre is now Gawler's iconic community hub connecting people and businesses and houses the Gawler Public Library, the Cultural Heritage Centre, function venues and meeting rooms, a Youth Space, and a modern business innovation hub. There is also a social Enterprise Cafe.
The Cultural Heritage Centre has an exhibition gallery featuring the many aspects of Gawler's past history. The current exhibition called "Fire The Canon", celebrates the birth of the Gawler Institute and the laying of the foundation stone 150 years ago. There is also a research centre that provides students and visitors access to the unique Gawler's heritage collection.
