I have recently found my new favourite concrete playground, here in the heart of Brisbane. It is all happening here at Gasworks Plaza Newstead, the latest and newest 'city precinct' development which is part of the new Brisbane City Master Plan development, with 'stage 2' still to follow.
Come and visit this place for lunch, coffee, a night meeting with friends or even bring your own picnic and sit and enjoy the 'open space' under the old 'gasometer' structure.
The best part of this place is the evening dining, as the Gasometer structure lights up at night, changing colours, making it a enjoyable visual experience while dining.
If you happen to turn up on Friday or a Saturday night at 7pm or 9pm sharp, you will get to see the 10 minute 'light and sound' show that takes place only at these times and only on these days, during which this place comes alive.
A list of the food and fun places you will find at Gasworks is below;1: Campos Coffee.
2: CBD Cafe.
3: Max Brenner - for chocolate lovers.
4: Wine Emporium - for wine lovers.
5: Breads by the Standard Market Co.
6: Deli by the Standard Market Co.
7: Fruits by the Standard Market Co.
8: Kebab O Clock.
9: La Rotisserie - great range of simple meats and gourmet salads.
10: Quench and Gurts - ice cream, frozen yogurt and desert bars.
11: Salas Fresh Mex Grill - Simple, cheap, tasty and as spicy as you like.
12: Buzz Gasworks - wine bar, great pizzas, breads and prime seats for the light show viewing.
13: Hatch and Co - popular dining place, serving meals and tapas.
(bookings are usually required here)
14: Reef Seafood and Sushi - as it says "Fish and Sushi", also licensed.
(Remember, this is only stage one, with stage two yet to come)
An interesting piece of history is attached to this Gasworks precinct and here is the brief below;
"The Gasworks name is inspired by Newstead Riverpark's rich history. In the 1860s, the site was home to Brisbane's Gasworks, which was an indispensable source of energy for the city's major street lights, public buildings, factories and homes for over a century.
The beautiful and ornate framework of the original Gasometer Frame has been carefully restored – and will take pride of place as the stunning centrepiece for the Gasworks' proposed plaza. The Gasworks will light the way for Brisbane once again."

So if you haven't yet discovered this place, make some time to come and play. Find out what's on here.
PARKING TIP: Park for 2 hours, free at the Woolworths undercover parking, which is right in the hub.
