From a late Victorian gasworks to an upmarket retail and commercial precinct, Gasworks Newstead has had an incredible glow up over the past one hundred years. Now, a monthly twilight market provides a literal glow up.
The heritage-listed Gasometer Amphitheatre, formerly a gas holder that provided gas to streetlights, now produces a different sort of light. On the second Friday of the month between 5 - 9pm, the grounds offer a selection of market stalls, food and entertainment.
Gasworks Markets provide high end handmade and quality second-hand goods, with a carefully curated selection of stalls and clothing rack sales offering some great bargains. This is a family-friendly event, with roving entertainment and workshops for the children. You can even bring your dog!
There is an ATM on-site and most stalls have EFTPOS.
Gasworks Markets are organised The Market Folk, a Brisbane based collective of creators and entrepreneurs dedicated to the Shop Local movement. They also run the Coorparoo Markets at Coorparoo Square, as well as workshops and second-hand clothing sales aimed at strengthening local economies and communities.
