The highly popular Gasworks Kids Holiday Program is back this April!

From 4th to 12th April 2017, Gasworks Arts Park is offering a diverse range of creative and entertaining experiences for children aged 5 to 14.

Enjoy special events with energetic artists and performers who specialise in working with kids, to creative and interactive workshops, which are imaginative, engaging and fun!

Easter school holiday highlights include:

  • Fencing Sword Fighting

    When: Tuesday 4 April 2017 | 10am to 11am, 11.30am to 12.30pm

    Age: 5 14 years | Cost $25

    En garde! Enjoy an action-packed hour of fencing fun and learn a great new sport. Discover the history of sword fighting from nationally accredited coach, Chris Jones, who will then teach the basic skills of fencing and sword fighting in this intensive class. Try it just for fun, and maybe you'll take it up as a sport. If you wish, bring a friend your own age/height to spar with.

     

  • Fencing Light Sabers

    When: Tuesday 4 April 2017 | 1pm 2pm, 2.30pm 3.30pm

    Ages: 5 -14 years | Cost $25

    Young padawans are invited to master their skills on their journeys to become Jedis. Using the principles of fencing and sword fighting, your coach Chris Jones will be your Obi Wan Kenobi as he teaches you some fantastic new skills. Come along in Star Wars dress ups if you like just make sure you can still move around freely when the battle begins (Jedi robes and Vader masks may need to be checked at the door).

  • Dance Like Michael Jackson

    When: Wednesday 5 April | 11.30am- 12.30pm

    Ages: 5 - 14 years | Cost: $25

    In this fresh hip hop dance workshop we are combining our love of hip hop and Michael Jackson to create a fusion of funk, fun and fresh moves! Parents and friends are welcome to stay and watch or enjoy a coffee at Priscilla Jones, then come back in time to see the dancers perform at the end of the workshop. Get your funky Michael Jackson costume together, bring your friends and a water bottle. You will be amazed what you can learn in one hour with your dance teacher Chloe.

     

  • Hula Hoop Groove

    When: Wednesday 5 April | 1.30pm 2.30pm

    Ages: 5 14 years | Cost: $25

    Come on, get hoopy in our new class and learn a dance routine with Hula Hoops! We learn basic Hula Hoop tricks and new ways to dance and flow with the hoop, working it all together into a hoop dance routine. Parents and friends are welcome to stay and watch or enjoy a coffee at Priscilla Jones, then come back in time to see the dancers perform at the end of the workshop. Hoops provided. Bring a smile, a friend and a water bottle and let's get groovy and hoopy together with your teacher Chloe.

     

  • Junior Chef Foost Cooking Classes

    When: Wednesday 6 April | 10am 11am, 11.30am 12.30pm

    Ages: 3 -12 years | Cost: $28

    Suitable for ages 5 to 14, with a cookery class for kids aged 3 and up!

    Budding mini chefs can join the Colourful Chef on a cooking adventure in this fully interactive class. Come along and smell, touch, see, cook and taste a range of fresh, colourful ingredients. Each participant takes home their own paper chef's hat and makes their own colourful dish to be enjoyed after the class. In this session, you will learn how to make delicious Gozleme and chocolate amaze-balls for dessert. Pre-school kids require an adult to help. Let us know if you have food allergies or intolerances when booking.

     

  • Create Your Own Story

    When: Thursday 6 April & Thursday 13 April | 11am 12pm

    Ages: 7 -12 years | Cost: $25

    International award winning writer and Australian Children's author Archie Fusillo presents a hands-on writing and illustrating workshop. Create a series of interesting characters that will form the basis for some imaginative word play and story writing. Learn how it is that writers find a story seemingly from nowhere! Archie will share with you practical skills for overcoming the blank page / screen, and get you started on the way to writing your own stories.
    Please bring paper and writing/drawing pens.

     

  • Play Chess Like A Champ

    When: Tuesday 11 April | 10.30am 12.30pm

    Ages: 7 14 years | Cost: $25

    Did you know there are more possibilities in a game of chess than grains of sand on the entire planet? Come along and learn strategies for all phases of this amazing game, hear stories of famous players, and find out interesting facts and figures. And of course, you'll get to play some fun games too! All abilities within the age group are welcome.

     

  • Paper Planes and the Science of Flight

    When: Tuesday 11 April | 1pm 3pm

    Ages: 7 -13 years | Cost: $25

    Learn how to engineer efficient paper planes from a sheet of A4 paper. You will be taught how to consider aerodynamic concepts such as thrust, pitch, drag, ailerons and elevators. Our specialist paper plane coach has years of experience in the creation of paper planes to competition standard.

     

  • Pre-School of Magic

    When: Wednesday 12 April | 10.30 am 11.30am

    Ages: 5 -7 years | Cost: $25

    An introduction to magic for any youngster who wants to be a Magician. This workshop is an easy welcome to the world of magic for young magicians. Cath Jamison, Australia's leading female magician will give a special short show then she will teach each Magic Apprentice how to perform their very own magic tricks.

  • Magic Wand Making with the Australian School of Magic

    When: Wednesday 12 April | 1.15 pm 2.15pm

    Ages: 5 -7 years | Cost: $25

    For all young budding magicians, witches, wizards and apprentices, here is an opportunity for you to create your own individual magic wand. Undertake the secret wand ceremony and learn the history and the correct use of your special wand. The wood is hand-picked from a sacred forest and gems from across the seas are provided to decorate and make your wand truly magical!

  • Magic Class with the Australian School of Magic

    When: Wednesday 12 April | 1.15 pm 2.15pm

    Ages: 5 -7 years | Cost: $25

    Australia's leading female magician, Cath Jamison can show you how you can be a Magician. Cath will give a special short show and then budding young tricksters will not only learn how to perform their own magic tricks, but will learn the secrets and tips for putting together their own magic show to impress friends and family. If you have a favourite trick bring it along to show the group!

  • Easter Clay with ARTea

    When: Wednesday 12 April | 10 am 11.30 am

    Ages: 5 - 10 years | Cost: $25

    Join professional artist Helen Pollard from ARTea Art School in this hands-on workshop. Learn hand building techniques to mould the clay and create your favourite Easter character to take home with you. What will you create? Remember to wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty! Children under 6 years must be accompanied by a parent or carer.

  • Eggstravaganza

    When: Wednesday 12 April | 12 pm 1.30 pm

    Ages: 5 - 10 years | Cost: $25

    Join us in this exciting Easter craft workshop with professional artist Helen Pollard from ARTea Art School in this hands-on workshop. This craft session will be packed to the brim with lots of fun and all things Easter eggs, bunnies, chicks, even egg decorating! Remember to wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty! Children under 6 years must be accompanied by a parent or carer.


    Gasworks Arts Park is easily accessible by public transport. Tram route 1 is a 5 minute walk down Graham Street from stop number 31, and Bus Routes 234 and 236 also get you there. There is also lots of free parking locally.
