Gardening Talks at The Garden Plant Nursery (Winter 2016)

The Garden Plant Nursery in MacGregor is one of my favourite nurseries in Canberra to wander around, so I was excited to learn that they also offer weekly garden talks on site.

Talks take place every Tuesday at 10.30am. Here is their schedule over the next couple of months:

**28 June: Orchid Growing and Maintenance with Paul Tyerman
**Orchids can be mysterious plants. It took about ten years before my Orchid first bloomed! Fortunately, Paul is an expert when it comes to Orchids and has been a member of the Orchid Society for a number of years. In his talk, Paul will cover:
1. How to repot Cymbidium Orchids
2. Likes and dislikes of some of the more popular varieties
3. How to get your Orchids to flower - and flower for longer (luckily for me!)

**5 July: Propagation with John Bowe from Tableland Trees & Shrubs
**Supplying Canberra with cold-hardy plants for decades, John also knows a thing or two about propagation. John's talk will cover various propagation techniques, including grafting. John has vast knowledge and experience in the horticulture industry.

**12 July: Fruit Tree Pruning Techniques and Spraying with Don Franklin
**Pruning your fruit trees correctly is essential for maximising fruit production and minimising pests and disease. Don has extensive knowledge of fruit trees suitable for the Canberra region, and will discuss how to prune new or mature fruit trees, as well as various pruning shapes.

**19 July: pH Testing and Soils with Paul Tyerman
**The acidity and alkalinity of our soil is essential to the way plants grow. Paul is back again to explain:
1. How the acidity and alkaline levels in our soil impact our plants
2. How to quickly and easily do a pH test on soil

**26 July: Creating and Caring for Terrariums with Emma Stewart
**Inspired the Terrarium Trend over the last few years, Emma will give a step-by-step demonstration on how to create a gorgeous miniature landscape in a Terrarium. Emma will also explain how to care for your Terrarium to keep it looking beautiful.

**2 August: Lawns by Canturf
**In preparation for the warmer weather, one of Canberra's lawn gurus from Canturf will be visiting to discuss:
1. Rejuvenating lawns
2. Preparation for new lawns and anything else you need to know about your lawn.

This is a great opportunity to trouble-shoot any issues you may have with your lawn.

**Who are the talks for?:
**Garden enthusiasts of any age or experience. This is a great opportunity to meet a variety of exceptionally experienced plant and horticulture experts and ask them your burning gardening questions. The talks are varied, so will appeal to a broad audience.

The talks are free, so bookings are essential to ensure enough space is allocated.
