I'm a mother of four with two coeliac children. I'm always on the lookout for great gluten-free spots around Brisbane and feature gluten-free cooking in my blog: coeliacfamily.blogspot.com.au
I'm also a muso and enjoy live music around town.

New Brekkie Menu at The Glen is worth getting out of bed for
There's something really good about having someone else cook your breakfast for you. It gives you licence to eat those treats which don't usually make it out of the recipe book at home. Pancakes, eggs benedict with salmon, omelette filled with special treats, a big breakfast complete with mushrooms and hash browns - all of these and more are on the Menu at the Garden Grille at the Glen Hotel.
Having only been to the front section of The Glen, I was pleasantly surprised to enter the Garden Grille section of the complex. Light and airy, overlooking gardens and the lake, we were treated to a feast when we visited and tried their new breakfast menu. Breakfast is always a bit tricky, having coeliacs in our family, but we were delighted to see gluten free options clearly marked on the menu. While not having a separate kids menu, there was more than enough to tempt our younger children, with one enjoying pancakes and the other fresh fruit and yoghurt. Staff were helpful too, providing kids activity packs to keep them occupied while waiting for breakfast to arrive.
Eggs Benedict comes with a choice of ham or salmon
The older members our troupe went for more sophisticated options, with eggs benedict with ham or salmon a popular choice, as well as the Oriental Omlette made with duck eggs, stuffed with crab meat and topped with spicy prawns. It was served with a caramelized chilli sauce to top it off. The big breakfast had all of the ingredients required to satisfy your hunger, bacon, eggs, sausage, mushrooms, tomatoes and home made baked beans. The meals were fresh and tasty with just enough of a personalized tweak to make the food stand out from your normal cafe fare.
The room is large and would be an excellent choice for a family celebrating a special occasion by having breakfast. Alternatively, the venue would be perfect for an early morning business breakfast meeting, with fresh coffee and tea available to kick start those neurons. The staff were friendly and helpful and the prices very reasonable. The kitchen is headed by it's newly appointed Executive Chef Patrick Carlos of Cha Cha Char fame.
