With 38 hectares of garden to explore at the Royal Botanical Gardens Melbourne, there's a lot of ground to cover in a day. Why not treat yourself and sit back and relax in one of the 'garden explorers' at the RBG and take a tour. You will hear seasoned expert commentary from the friendly drivers who will share their knowledge of the garden's remarkable history and most popular plant collections. It'll be another dimension you can enjoy and add to your experience as a visitor. This 25 seater people mover takes 50 minutes to complete a full loop, however, you can get on and off as it pleases you at any of the 7 designated stops. It certainly comes in handy to have an option like this if you're considering taking someone whom is not as mobile.
Running from 10am to 4pm (times are subject to change) daily (except Christmas day), contact the Visitor Centre on (03) 9252 2300 to confirm times. Tickets are available from said Centre and the lakeside Gardens Shop. You can also get them from the driver (EFT or credit card only). For bookings and enquiries, call (03) 9252 2429 and costs are as follows.
Day pass $15 adult, $10 conc./Friend's member, $35 family (2 adults, 2 children). To find out how to get to the botanical gardens, CLICK HERE. Head to the website for other information, activities and events and you can join their Facebook page to keep abreast of updates.
As an aside, the Cranbourne RBG also runs the same service but differently. They do group bookings for a minimum of 10 people at $10 per person daily for the guided tour and a daily pass for the garden explorer. You can select either the 'plants for your place' or the 'flora Australia' tours. CLICK HERE to find out more.
The other option is for a one hour group (min 10 in a group) tour where you can hop off at interesting points from 10am to 11am by arrangement at $14.50 per adult. CLICK HERE to find out more details. Both gardens are rich with attractions, events and plant collections so make sure you check out their website for more details and to read their story. They also have a Facebook presence.
