I think there's something we can all agree on – the original/authentic/genuine is ALWAYS going to be better than the attempts to replicate. Whether a fake Chanel Clutch, Italian food at Westfields or the "Bollywood" Dancing you see at the local RSL – it really is no where close to the real thing.

In some circumstances, the fake is the closest thing we're going to get to the real thing (unless of course you have a fairy god mother) and I'm pretty sure you thought Bollywood Dancing would be part of that deal. Well, call me the fairy god mother, grab your best Sari and get ready for one of the most anticipated and authentic Bollywood Dance Nights of the year!

So technically – Bollywood Dancing – is the modern commercial name for the fusion of various Indian dance styles. This includes folk dances such as Garba and Bhangra (break out that tidbit of trivia at the dinner table) and Once a year, CHYK (Chinmaya Yuva Kendra), who are the youth wing of Chinmaya Mission organise GARBA BHANGRA NIGHT to raise money for the charitable activities of Chinmaya Mission Australia.

As the website states "It's a chance for every person to experience a drop in the ocean of the Indian culture" – and they are not wrong! The night is filled with all things Indian and gives you an opportunity to do so without having to travel 7, 969 km and saving you roughly $1500 – which is always excellent! (the nominations for best fairy god mother are open) ;)

One of the biggest complaints I hear from my friends is that they only ever get to see (pretty dodgy) Bollywood dance acts but wish they would be part of the action – well, here's your chance!

The night will start off with Garba which is the folk dance of the Gujarat province in India – think of it like a dosey doe with a lot more movement and done in a circle…kind of. This will be followed by Dandhia which is another version of Garba but done in rows with partners that you keep swapping (which really sounds more similar to dosey doe than the above variety) but most importantly – this is done with sticks. Sticks will be provided for the night but you don't get to keep them, I can however teach you how to make your own sticks – but that's a whole other discussion.

Bhangra is the final variation of the night that hails from the region of Punjab and I'll be honest with you – Bhangra has pretty specific steps, however, none of which are structured so this is the time of the night to just go plain crazy, and if all else fails - break out your "screw the light bulb and pat the dog" sequence and you'll be pretty much set. ;)

If all of that sounds slightly confusing – don't worry 'cause I've got you covered! The event has grown in numbers since its inception and for a good portion of the participants, it's always their first time so they always organise plenty of volunteers and experienced dancers who will be happy to show you the ropes on the night!

And if you're not burning up the dance floor, be prepared to burn your tastebuds because waiting outside the venue – expect to find delicious (and cheap!) Indian food and drinks! They even have a break so you can grab yourself a somosa and not miss any of the action!

If you're more the type to sit back and enjoy the show, some of the best Bollywood and Indian cultural acts will turn up the excitement of the night with their live performances, providing a little bit of something for everyone!

And if nothing else, it'll be a great night to grab your mates, put on the most colourful, dazzling outfit you own and try something completely different and still raise money for charity, and here's the clicker – I pretty much guarantee it'll be a night you won't forget.
