Started off locally in Bondi Beach four years ago, the Garage Sale Trail event aims to promote sustainability, community networking, and fund raising for self or charities. It has since then evolved into a national event in Australia where communities around the country will hold garage sales on the same day.

The event in 2012 was a success with the involvement of 800,000 people, 1 million items being sold/redistributed and $3 millions raised in local fundraising. Registered local businesses as sellers for the event made twice their regular takings on average during the sale day. It was also an opportunity to connect with their potential future buyers.
