The Cambridge English Dictionary states the definition of a "garage sale" as an occasion when people sell things they no longer want, often in their garage or outside their house and they are as popular today as when they first began.
On the weekend of 20 and 21 October 2018, all over Australia, the largest garage sale is happening to raise awareness of not simply throwing out, but finding ways to reuse, recycle and sell on to others, who may find what you have for sale is just what they are looking to purchase. You will not only be able to gain some extra cash, you will also be helping to reduce waste and the impact it is having on Mother Nature.

The idea,
Garage Sale Trail originated in Bondi Beach in 2010 as a community event named Sizzle with the tagline of "Don't Dump It, Sell It". It was a huge success, which has led the way for repeat events on a yearly basis. The Garage Sale Trail now has the support of 146 Council partners and more than 400,000 bargain hunting Australians shopping and selling at more than 15,000 garage sales Australia-wide. The garage sales have won awards – NSW Government Green Globe Award and a Community Contribution of the Year Award. With that behind their belt, they decided to take the garage sale to a national level.

Every year, the garage sale has a unique name; 2018 is "Choose to Reuse". Sellers must register to be part of the movement, however, this is at no cost. You may like to gather your friends for a combined garage sale or raise funds for the local school or club. A handy guide is on their website to help you to host a group sale.

If not a seller, then perhaps a buyer, spread the word and get involved in the fun of reuse and recycling. Remember someone's trash is always someone's treasure.
