Garage Sales are a great way to respect the environment by recycling perfectly good items, rather than having them go into landfill.

The Garage Sale Trail concept began in Bondi in 2010 and is growing bigger every year. Now it is the Australia's biggest weekend of garage sales. An estimated 400,000 Australians will get involved this year by selling their pre-loved stuff at a garage sale or shopping the Trail for bargains and unique buys.

Garage Sale Trail is run by Australian not for profit social enterprise, Garage Sale Trail Foundation, in partnership with the councils of Australia.

Local Councils are Involved

Many local councils are behind the project. And the event is for everyone whether you are a buyer or a seller. Households, community groups, charities, schools, even whole streets can get involved.

How do you find out what is happening locally?

From September, you will be able to search for garage sales happening near you using a national map and create a list of favourites to visit over the special weekend.

It is free to run and advertise a garage sale.

It's free to participate thanks to the support of local councils and on average, households make just over $350 on the day. Schools over $1,500.

What's for sale?

Over 2 million items going up for sale every year, So anything and everything. It's all about secondhand, from pre-loved furniture, kids toys and books to clothing, vinyl, knick-knacks and more.

Most garage sales run from 9am 1pm.

Why participate?

If you participate, you'll join 400,000 Australians nationwide. For first-time garage sales, the organisation makes it easy by providing tools, tips and a highly trafficked website (2 million views).
