Gametraders is an Australian chain of video-game retailers. With only five stores left in Victoria after the closing of the Eastland store a year or two ago, they aren't easy to come by. However, the Croydon store still stands strong and has been there for as long as I can remember.
Gametraders sells both new and pre-owned games and allows you to trade your games in for a bargain. Their stock consists of the most popular current gaming platforms (such as Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and PC) as well as some older platforms such as SEGA Genesis, Nintendo 64 and Game Boy.
The staff at Gametraders are friendly and approachable and know their stuff, meaning it is extremely easy to ask for assistance when buying gifts and feel a bit out of your league. They will always try and give you assistance and get you the best deal possible without ripping you off.
Gametraders also sell gaming accessories and merchandise such as figurines of video game characters, t-shirts and other pieces or apparel, and posters. They also sell Doctor Who memorabilia (including Sonic Screwdrivers, Adipose Stress Toys and Lego), manga and have a number of Gashapon machines near the front of the store.
They often have specials, too. They usually have "buy two get one free" or "three for $15" style specials,so definitely have a look as you walk on by. These sort of specials are generally right by the door so you won't miss them if you walk inside. They sometimes have a game you can try out at the counter, which is perfect if you have time to kill if you're waiting for a friend.
If after something specific make sure to call up and check if it's in stock first, and the staff will happily hold on to something for a day or two. If not, check out the Gametraders website and check out the other stores. You can even purchase games and other stock online if that suits your needs.
You can find Gametraders in Croydon on Main Street, right next to Croydon Station. There is parking available, and it's easily accessible by both bus and train.
