Do you need a motivational boost?
Game On

Game On is a motivational book written by Australian netball defender and ex-Vixens captain Bianca Chatfield and Leigh Russell, a leadership specialist and high-performance coach. This is a practical down-to-earth manual for creating a great career and life, and includes a toolkit for being the best you can be.

The book is divided into five parts Getting your game on - finding your groove and igniting your passion, Mind Games, Take the Lead making the best possible impact, You got this nailing the life you want, and The Game Plan putting it all into action. You won't be surprised to find many sporting phrases amongst the advice. Although it is odd to see hashtags written in a physical book.

Game On

Each of the chapters in the book are short and easy to read. There are practical exercises scattered throughout and bullet point summaries called winning plays. Both of the authors tell snippets of their life story to reinforce particular points. The book is well designed with motivational quotes and beautiful full colour photographs throughout.

The authors cover many of challenges a modern day woman encounters in her career, including confidence, resilience, working with fear and dealing with the inner critic. I liked the chapter on unhooking yourself from other people's opinions and how to stop comparing yourself to others.

"You are enough, and always have been"

There are two chapters that I don't think will apply to everyone leadership and building your brand. We don't all need to be leaders nor have a brand. Some of us are doers and followers and that's perfectly fine. I am wary of advice about following your passion, because sometimes our passion is our family, pets or our hobbies. It's not always possible or practical to follow the career of our dreams.

Game On

One of the last chapters is about creating a personal board of directors. This is just a fancy way of saying mentors and having five on the team so you have an odd number of votes is rather arbitrary advice.

The authors write authentically with a modern tone. I think this book will appeal to females who are stuck in a rut or looking for direction, especially the younger generation of women. If you are a netball or sports fan or new to the area of positive thinking and motivation, then this book would be ideal for you.

Game On is available in paperback from your favourite bookseller.
