A Pencil Microsculpture Exhibition By Salavat Fidai
To commemorate the seventh season of Game of Thrones, which is premiering on 17 July, HBO Asia and K are bringing celebrated micro-artist Salavat Fidai to Singapore for the first time ever.
Salavat Fidai has created more than 30 works that bring to life the familiar images from the fantasy genre Game of Thrones. The Russian micro-artist has recreated iconic symbols and images from the hit series using only graphite pencils and a craft knife.

Public could view these intricate carvings: The Iron Throne, Sigils from House Stark, House Targaryen, House Greyjoy, House Baratheon and House Lannister, as well as the Hand of the King pin, Cersei's new crown, Drogon the dragon, the Three-Eyed Raven, the Night's King, a White Walker, the Titan of Braavos, the Weirwood tree, and two swords — Brienne of Tarth's Oathkeeper and Jon Snow's Long Claw.
Each artwork took 12 hours to 10 days to be completed. The impressive Iron Throne took around two weeks of delicate etching and chiselling. The artist uses X-Acto knife, microscope and illuminated loupe in etching and chiselling. His work can be described as a song of wood and graphite.
In addition to his Game of Thrones-themed micro sculptures, Fidai has carved an additional 15 pencils exclusively for K. This collection is influenced by his childhood experience at the foot of the Ural Mountains in Russia. Having artists as his parents, he often inspired by nature. After spending more than 20 years practising law, he returns to his childhood hobby – painting. He paints not only canvasses but matchboxes and seeds. He also fell in love with sculpting. Carving on the tips of pencils is the ultimate challenge for him since graphite is so very fragile.
While Fidai's Game of Thrones pencils are not for sale, his fantasy genre-inspired micro sculptures are available for purchase only at K. For his Asian fans, Fidai has also created a Rooster micro sculpture which will be available exclusively on the K online store at kplus.sg during the exhibition period.
