These boys' games are a lot of fun
More than a sketch of comedy, a colourful world of fun
Blockbuster film buffs and theatre games superstars, you just have to grab a ticket to this edge of your seat, rollercoaster tour at ACMI.
The ride really is just like a backlot studio tour bus that has been hijacked and doctored up into a rollercoaster. With a bit of the magic from the Back to the Future time machine, you are taken on a nostalgic adventure that takes you to places you never knew you wanted to go!
This tour is trivia happy and for the film mad. You can tell your hosts, Brothers Eden and Josh Porter, are having a wow of a time. Their commitment and energy wrap you into the show. Think Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure - that level of enthusiasm can be for real. It is not at all a surprise they won the award for 'Best Comedy Show' at the Fringe festival last year, or that this show itself is nominated for more.
You can come to this even if you don't imagine it is what you are interested in. There is something soul warming about just sitting back and reminiscing with friends about the first film you remember watching and who doesn't love movie trivia and some back of set education about what makes the imaginary film worlds flourish with life.
About the Price A ticket to this show is $25-29 dollars. You will not be disappointed - you may even wish the tour went even longer. The world of movies is a vast universe of possibilities.
Who will want to go? This is for an audience who doesn't like to just sit still and ponder. The colourful type who jiggles on the edge of their seat and speaks up in class. Being a vibrant part of this world is possible and encouraged.
Jump in quick You will have to act fast if you don't want to miss the tour bus. Limited shows are available from March 31 to April 7 - this week is already booked out. Large groups of friends were in the queue through the door, so I don't know how long the opportunity will remain.
About the Venue
Entrance to Game Boy' is down the escalator or lift, through the 'Games Room' door at ACMI. The venue is wheelchair friendly and assistance can be requested.
It is a very under-assuming locale. At first, we were puzzled 'could this be the place?' The room is like a school gym with colourful benched steps. It is warm and comfortable. Small enough to make the show intimate and immersing.
With a few props, sound, editing and a lot of ingenuity, the boys blast you with one surprise after another. Constantly you are amazed at how simply entertainment can be conjured.
About the Performer's
Eden and Josh Porter have charisma and believability. Along with solid acting skills and a wild imagination, you just want to follow their line of thought, even past the point of wondering what you got yourself into. They know what gets people enjoying themselves.
The show starts on fire and continues to the final bang. Also known for the Wild World of Esports at the 2017 Fringe Festival, this show proves they will never exhaust themselves for ideas.
