Visit Western Australia's first bean to bar chocolate maker

Gabriel's Chocolate is an award-winning chocolate company. They have a shop in Yallingup and another one in Fremantle. Gabriel's were the first "bean to bar" chocolate makers to open up shop in Western Australia.

They go to great trouble to source the finest raw cacao beans from places like Indonesia and Venezuela and then ship them to their factory in Yallingup. Once the beans arrive, the talented men and women working at Gabriel's get to work processing them. Each bean is carefully hand sorted and roasted to bring out natural flavours. The end result is a unique brand of smooth and delicate tasting chocolate.

Gabriel's Chocolate's Yallingup Factory is located on the corner of Caves Road and Quininup Road in Yallingup, Western Australia. It is open 7 days a week from 10am to 5pm, every day. When we visited their Yallingup shop, I was greeted by a very euthanistic young woman who was eager to take me over to a sample table and explain to me their chocolate making process. Their Yallingup store has a showroom section in the front and a café up the back.

Gabriel's Chocolate sells a huge range of treats from chocolate blocks to sauces to drinking chocolate to rocky road to giant chocolate freckles. Their Milk Chocolate range has flavours like Ecuador Milk Chocolate, Real White Chocolate, Mocha Milk Chocolate, Venezuela Rio Caribe Milk Chocolate, Ghana Sweet Milk Chocolate, Milk Orange Chocolate, Madagascar Sambirano Milk Chocolate and Indonesia Java Sweet Milk Chocolate. A single block of Milk Chocolate costs between $7.50 and $9.50.

Gabriel's Dark Chocolate range has flavours like Madagascar 72% Dark Chocolate, Dark Orange Chocolate, Venezuela Rio Caribe 72% Dark Chocolate, Venezuela Chuao 80% Dark, Expresso Dark Chocolate, Dark Mint Chocolate, Papua New Guinea 72% Dark Chocolate, Dark Chocolate Rocky Road and Venezuela Chuao 99% Dark Chocolate. A block of dark chocolate costs between $8.50 and $15. Gabriel's Chocolate does gift packs. The cheapest pack costs $25 and contains 3 blocks of chocolate and the most expensive option is The Chocolate Maker's Premium Selection which costs $109.

Gabriel's Café is a good place to go for morning or afternoon tea. They sell ice cream, cakes, waffles, cookies, light snacks and hot and cold drinks.

There are over FOUR different options for a hot chocolate! Choose from a Long Hot Chocolate for $6 or a Short Hot Chocolate for $5 or a Premium Hot Chocolate for $8 or a Baby Hot Chocolate for $4. A Mocha costs $6.50 and comes with coffee and your own choice of chocolate. They also sell tea, coffee, iced chocolate, iced coffee and milkshakes.

If you want to grab a bite to eat, Gabriel's sell waffles for $12 (choose from Antioxidant, Banoffee or Traditional), chocolate chip cookies, brownies, cake, chocolate mousse, toasted sandwiches and ice cream. You can get 1 scoop of ice cream for $4.50 and 2 scoops for $6.50. For an extra $2.50, you can get a slice of cake with your ice cream as well.

I decided to get a scoop of ice cream when we visited. I got a scoop of Straccitella Vanilla and Chocolate. It came with a drizzle of chocolate sauce on top. This was really good quality ice cream. It had a strong vanilla flavour and had a strong crunch to it as well. I also bought a block of Mocha Milk chocolate to take home. It had a strong Mocha taste and was very nice. I would happily visit Gabriel's again.
