FUSE is Darebin's contemporary, multi-arts festival that gives local artists and performers a platform to transform streets, parks, various venues, theatres, galleries and public spaces into a dynamic hub of art, culture and creativity. This festival is held each Spring and Autumn and right now, the FUSE Spring Program is live on the website. The festival runs from 3-18 September 2022 and is held at a variety of venues, places and spaces.

The Spring extravaganza kicks off with Ganbu Gulin: Imagining on Sat 3 Sep from 2-7pm at Ray Bramham Gardens, St Georges Road, Preston. This is a free event that welcomes all residents, old and new onto Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Country. Ganbu Gulin celebrates Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island culture and features a stellar lineup of First Nations performers. You can participate in the sunset Walk on Country for a powerful show of solidarity, meet Aboriginal community leaders and business owners, explore stories of endurance and survival while enjoying live music and performances from a great lineup that includes Djirri Djirri , Wurundjeri women's dance group. Check the website or follow all given links for further details about events.

Other highlights at FUSE include Message from Another You , from 6-10 Sep at Northcote Town Hall Arts Centre, 189 High St, Northcote. Enjoy a science-fictional experiment where the audience interacts with chatbot versions of themselves. The experience will teach you about the Many Worlds interpretation and why as humans we are fascinated by the notion of doubles and doppelgängers. Book your tickets so as not to miss out.

Then there's the Things Will Be Different , a free film screening and walking tour on 10 and 18 Sep, a community project about former residents of the demolished Walker Street housing estate. The first screening will take place at the All Saints Church in Northcote adjacent to the now demolished estate, and will involve a walking tour of the local area with the documentary participants and audience. The second screening will be at the Thornbury picture house, accompanied by a Q&A with filmmakers and the documentary participants. Take note that some events require registration to secure your spot. Follow the given links to register for this free event.

There's much to enjoy at the annual FUSE@Large open-access program, an invitation to Darebin creatives to activate our city in unexpected and delightful ways. Look for the FUSE@Large tag on the program , and don't forget to keep hitting 'show more events' to view the full program. You'll find the @Large lineup at various venues, some free, and some ticketed and requires booking.

Variety galore, choose from a gaggle of ukulele musicians equipped with only four strings and the truth; musicians that are arresting and speak to fans who yearn for that same sense of belong and escapism; Australia's first and only Islamic Museum presenting a curated showcase of the creative breadth and cultural diversity of Muslim artists; Deep Creatures by The Amplified Elephants where you take a blissful deep dive into a sonic world of imagination, exploration, vocal work, poetry and more. The Amplified Elephants are a leading sound art ensemble who will perform their latest work with a gathering of electronic instruments and sound-making devices distributed through a video screen-scattered performance space. As you can see, there's this and a whole lot more to discover at FUSE@Large.

Aside from performances you can enjoy and learn at Circular , a free event on Thu 8 Sep at Bridge Darebin Neighbourhood House. Learn about "circular economy" initiatives with a sustainable mini-market, family friendly zero-waste craft workshop, and environmentally innovative Moon Rabbit catering with dreamy grazing platters full of savoury and sweet treats. How does Chocolate Jaffa Cake with chocolate butter cream sound? Find Art Exhibitions at Bundoora Homestead where you'll find four stirring exhibitions from three solo exhibitions, with the fourth being the work of eight First Nations women with strong culturally led practices who will showcase their art, supported by a series of talks and programs over the coming months.

For those of you who love the spoken word, there's Poetry Slam on 17 Sep at Northcote Town Hall Arts Centre. Poets will be slamming out their works on stage with up to three minutes to perform their original spoken word piece on any subject and in any style, with the audience voting for their favourites. There's also a Teen Poetry Slam on the same day and at the same venue, and a Ten Poetry Performance Workshop . From Stories of Sustainability & Regeneration , an interactive life drawing class like no other, an Ethereal Theatre Experience and a lot more, be sure to scour the program so you don't miss a thing.

It's no surprise that FUSE Spring 2022 ends with a bang at the free FUSE Block Party featuring live bass music, a grand finale dress-up parade and more, on Sat 17 Sep at Newman Reserve. It's a celebration of self-expression and a chance to be your own canvas. This is a signature closing event that features a flea market, costume making workshops, mural making, live musical performances by Decibel artists, No Lights No Lycra dance, and an art installation. Come to the party wearing a costume that expresses yourself or design one at the free on-site workshop and boogie in the dark!
