Having driven past it numerous times, it was on my to do list. Dreary weather on Anzac Day provided the perfect opportunity. We were looking for some indoor fun for the kids and Funkee Monkees delivered just that.
Funkee Monkees, tucked away in the corner next to 7-Eleven on Orange Grove Road, is similar to other play centres like Lollipops Playland, but is owned and operated by a local family. It is also smaller, more intimate, and much less chaotic. The kids had a ball exploring the play equipment and my husband and I actually enjoyed ourselves, reading up-to-date magazines – trashy tabloids for me and Top Gear for Dad.
I had a lovely latte while my husband had a caramel thick shake, which he described as "spot on". When the little ones came back to the table for a rest, they replenished their energy levels with babycinos and berry, coconut, and white chocolate slice. Then they were off again.
Besides the climbing gyms and twisty slide, there's a see-saw, ball pit, dress-ups, and a number of ride-ons. The police car and motorbike were popular with our kids. Funkee Monkees is suitable for babies to eight year olds, with three play areas: under 2, under 4, and over 4.
I can't wait for the next rainy day to go back and sample their reasonably priced lunch menu which includes quiche, toasted sandwiches, and nachos with salsa, sour cream, and sweet chilli. Kids can snack on chicken nuggets, potato smiles, and mini pies or get a meal deal for $5 which includes a juice popper. Let's not forget the sweets: slices, friands, and cupcakes to name a few.
Funkee Monkees is open as follows: 9am to 3pm Monday - Thursday 9am to 5pm Friday 9am to 3pm Saturday
Entry fee is $8.50 (1-2 year olds) and $9.50 (3 up). Adults are free. Entry after 1pm on Monday to Thursday, and after 3pm on Friday is only $5.
