Christmas is just around the corner. Many of us are already panicking at the thought of Christmas time - a time of family gatherings, lots of food and drink and merriment. Sadly this is not true for many others. Christmas time can also bring a lot of stress financially and mentally.
Luckily, organisations like the Melbourne Basket Brigade are dedicated to giving back to the less fortunate at Christmas time, they help ease what would otherwise be a stressful time of the year.
The Melbourne Basket Brigade needs your help. Every year they gather donations to put together hampers to deliver around Melbourne. The MBB is run by volunteers, who enjoy coming together with other like-minded people to give back to the community. They fundraise money throughout the year in order to purchase supplies for the Christmas hampers. They also work closely with local organisations who help nominate where the hampers should be distributed to. These include the elderly, special-needs children, the newly arrived and the homeless.
Their aim this year is to make 750 hampers. And so they need to raise around $30,000 with your help along with donations of food and toys from the community. And so I introduce to you the Melbourne Basket BrigadeTRIVIA NIGHT!
When: Saturday 18th November 2017 Where: Mentone Bowling Club, 2 Swanson St, Mentone Time: 7pm-11:30pm Why: Every ticket will help them move closer to their goal of creating 750 hampers.
So get your friends, family and neighbours together, read up the encyclopedia and get ready to flex your brains for a good cause.
If you've never been to a quiz night before, here are some simple tips to help you get ahead:
1. Arrive 15-20 mins early. (Earlier if it's your very first time) This way you can suss out where to sit, which is key! Avoid the back! Sit where you can easily see the host or the screen, and where you can hear the questions clearly. 2. Gather a good mix of players for your table. Everyone has a job. Get the sporty one, the geek, the history buff, the karaoke hog, the "wise" ones even the "young" ones who will be able to answer all the pop questions that you can't. 3. Have fun! No-one likes a serious gamer, although there will be plenty of them around. It's not the end of the world if you miss a question. As long as you give it your best shot, and that you can laugh about it after, and how you wished you'd "stayed in school" 4. Remember the reason you came. To support the wonderful work of the Melbourne Basket Brigade.
Another way to help is on Packing Day. This is the day they need as many helpers as they can to help pack the hampers ready for delivery. If you'd like to volunteer in this way send an email firstname.lastname@example.org to be added to the volunteer mailing list
There are limited tickets available so bookings are essential. Head to Eventbrite.com.au to book.
