Over the past few years, Oahu has become one of the most popular vacation destinations in Hawaii. There are a number of reasons behind this increase in popularity and one of the main ones is that there are so many great activities available that are suitable for the whole family. Whether you are more interested in seeing the sights or you would prefer to take part in some physical activities, Oahu has something that will hold your interest. With that in mind, let's have a look at 6 of the best things to do when visiting this beautiful Hawaiian island.
There is so much to see and do when you visit Oahu that it would be impossible to visit all of them. However, we have put together a list of six of the most popular to get you started.
1 – Visit Pearl Harbor
One of the most popular activities for those coming to Oahu is to pay a visit to Pearl Harbor. There are some wonderful, not to mention moving, tours of Pearl Harbor available, which take in the USS Missouri, Punchbowl Crater and include a boat ride out to the Arizona Memorial.
2 – Hollywood in Hawaii
Did you know that Oahu has been a popular filming location for a long list of blockbuster movies? Yes, that's right. Hollywood loves Hawaii and when you visit Oahu you could take a tour of some of those popular movie locations. One of the places that most people get excited about is visiting Kualoa Ranch where Jurassic Park was filmed. This same location has also appeared in Magnum PI, Hawaii 5-0, 50 First Dates and Godzilla among others. 3 – Scuba Diving
One of the things that Oahu is best known for is scuba diving. This is largely because the island boasts calm, clear waters that are teeming with vibrant marine life. There are reefs to explore and even a few shipwrecks just off the coast. You will find plenty of scuba diving tours on offer when visiting Oahu that suit beginners and more advanced scuba divers alike. One of the companies I would personally recommend is Living Ocean Scuba - they are located in Oahu and offer affordable tours.
4 – Sea Life Park
If you want to get up close and personal with some marine life, but don't fancy actually going scuba diving, then you might prefer to take a trip to Sea Life Park. Not only do you get to learn about an impressive array of marine life, but you can also watch the regular performances or even take the opportunity to get in the water with the resident dolphins.
5 – Climb Diamond Head Volcano
Oahu is home to Hawaii's most famous volcano – Diamond Head. Climbing the volcano and exploring its breathtaking crater is a popular activity for visitors who enjoy hiking. It takes around 3 hours to reach the summit and tours are offered regularly, which include a guided hike through Diamond Head State Park.
6 – Wet n Wild Hawaii Water Park
The Wet n Wild Hawaii Water Park is the perfect way to entertain the family for a day. The whole family will love the various water slides and wave pools that are on offer with a total of 25 different rides and attractions. There are also facilities for a BBQ lunch to cap off the day perfectly.
