It doesn't have to cost a lot of money for us to enjoy our weekends. With the Easter long weekend coming up, most of us in a 9 to 5 job have a few days off. Christmas season was so expensive so we decided that we should just buckle down with our expenses. Well, how about 10 suggestions on how to enjoy the long weekend and any other weekends without costing a fortune and even better, it's "FREE".
**
1. Join a social group**
There are a few social groups in Sydney that do not cost anything to join. It's a fun way of meeting people from all walks of life. One of them is the over 40's meet up. I had the pleasure of attending one of the functions, and it was a most enjoyable night out. Check out their website;

Apart from the site that I've mentioned above, there are more meet up social group that you can join for free. The Writers Group is one of my favourites. The talent in that group is so good and inspiring. Being a writer myself, I get a lot of satisfaction and ideas from the group members.

2. Internet dating
Why be a couch potato? If your single, there are sites that you can join for free. You don't have to be alone all the time. You never know, you might make some good friends and lovers out of these dating sites. If your carrying some extra love handles, it might give you some incentive to loose a few kilos. But remember, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Sites like POF.com and Oasis.com are free to join.

3. Tours along Sydney
A site called www.imfree.com.au lists a few of these free tours. One is a tour around The Rocks. It will give you an insight of the first settlement, historic pubs, ghosts that lurks around the laneways, murders, muggings and a lot of other history. It's absolutely free and run by people who Re passionate about our wonderful city. Of course at the end of the walk, it's up to your discretion if you want to donate a few dollars for their time.

4. Watch some live bands
There are a few pubs that don't cost anything to get in. The Fortune of War provides live entertainment. The Orient at The Rocks have some great bands that will send you jiving and boggey across the dance floor, although they do charge a fee after 10pm. But I have been there a few times and I immensely enjoyed every bit of my time.

5. Check out the Market at The Rocks
This market has more than 200 stalls. Designer clothes, earthware, linens and hand made blown glass made by budding designers are on show. The kaleidoscope of colours that you will see at The Rocks is entertaining. Not to mention the chill out tunes the buskers provide and the range of delectable food stalls, where you can sample BBQ salmon, lamb kebabs, paella and gozleme. Historic pubs are within walking distance, so after a few hours of walking, why not venture into a couple of historic pubs and have a few drinks and enjoy a meal or both. Opening times are from 10am to 4pm on Fridays, 10am to 5pm on Saturdays and Sunday. Closed on Christmas and Good Friday.

6. Jazz along Glebe Point Rd at Glebe.
I have heard that Glebe Point Road has been compared to the bustling, fervent jazz strips of 1930s and 1940s New York and has emerged as one of Sydney's prime live music scenes. Places like Mr Falcons, which has a weekly resident Jazz duo named Steve and Steve and swanky venues like The Little Guy, plus hip cafes and bookshops are littered in and around this place and are a must to visit for visitors and locals alike.

7. Stroll along Darling Harbour.**
In its quarters playground, you will find a 21 metre flying fox, games, climbing ropes, swing, slides, water buckets and pumps. Just think of the endless fun that your children will enjoy while you sip your coffee on a rug. It's all free. Check out www.darlingquarter.com for more info.

8. Check out Star Casino
You don't need to put bet to enjoy this place. The ambience is entertaining, with its vast opulent surroundings, restaurants and music venues like Rock Lily, that provides free live entertainment.

9. Visit St Mary's Cathedral at Hyde Park
This church is known to be the Mother of Catholicism. Discover the architectural splendour of St Mary's Cathedral. Go in for a visit or pray. The crypt, which is renowned for its mosaic floor depicting "The Creation", is open daily from 10am to 4pm. Free cathedral tours are available Sundays at noon.

10. Visit the historic Garrison Church at The Rocks.
The Holy Trinity Church had been called Garrison Church as it has been regularly attended to by the regiment stationed at Dawes Point. The church, designed by Edmund Thomas Blacket, was the first Garrison Church in Australia. It features beautiful glass stained windows and memorabilia that adorns the walls dating back to the1800s.

Great food, scenery, culture, history, entertainment, music and more. How lucky can we be, living and breathing in this amazing city, and as the saying goes "live and let live"
