This family fun run on Sunday 28 September 2014 has a very serious message behind it. It's an issue a lot of us grapple with as individuals. In a perfect world, if everyone ticked the section about organ donation on their driver's license, there'd be more organs available and even more lives saved. This fun run not only celebrates the progress made over the last 40 years in transplantation, but it's a way for the community to get together to show support and appreciation by getting involved.
Not just individuals, but the whole of health care, teams from every transplant hospital and everyone within the DonateLife network is encouraged to celebrate the advances made in transplantation over the past 40 years by being involved. Enter a corporate team, a social team, a charity team, enter with a group of friends or simply enter as a family. Getting involved is whats important.
Registration for this fun run is open at 7.30 am at Palms Lawn for a 9am race start on the day i.e. Sunday 28 September 2014. Whether you individually want to walk, run, jog or stroll, everyone is welcome! Held around Albert Lake in Albert Park, it marks the opening celebration of The Australian Transplant Games. Held every two years, 'The Games' are living proof of the success of transplantation and encourages all Australians to discuss organ and tissue donation with their families.
However, the Fun run is not just for those involved in the Games, it's for everyone! There will be stalls, face painting for the kids and entertainment! There will be a presentation to the winners (for the serious at heart) from each category and the Opening Ceremony of the Australian Transplant Games will take place in the Lakeside Stadium at Albert Park.
