Make Father's Day a Family Day
It's easy to underestimate the important role Fathers play in our society or to take Dad for granted, so don't miss this opportunity for a family day out. Make Father's Day more than a card and breakfast in bed, go somewhere together, do something together, smile together and laugh together. These special Father's Day events will let you do just that.
1. Family Day at Collingwood Children's Animal Farm
Get Dad out into the fresh air and get up close to the animals at the Collingwood Children's Farm Family Day. Meet Heather the Ayrshore cow, Mickie the donkey, Brandy, Tyson, Harry and Joe the ponies, Ted the Quarterhorse and Charley Benson, a Clydesdale horse. Don't miss the pigs, goats, sheep, geese, chickens and more. Guinea pigs will be on hand for a cuddle. Feed the animals, wander through the paddock with the sheep and goats, feed the chooks or look for some eggs.
The Collingwood Children's Animal Farm is at 18 St Heliers St Abbotsford, VIC, 3067. Family day runs from 9.15am to 4.15pm, Sunday 4th September 2016. Tractor rides run from 10.30 to 2.30, Cow Milking is at 10am and 4pm. Guinea Pig Cuddles are at 11.45am to 12.15pm, 1.30pm to 2.15pm and 3.15 to 3.45pm. BBQ lunch starts at 11.30am until sold out. The farm café is open from 9am to 4pm. Parking is available in St Heliers Street – fees apply after the first half hour.
Costs are: Full Price: $20 for families, $10 for adults and $5 for children. Concession: $10 for families, $5 for adults and $3 for children.

2. YMCA Inaugural Father's Day Fun Run
Become part of history in this first ever YMCA Father's Day Fun Run. There are two version, a 5km and a 10km run. They are both run on The Tan commencing at Alexandra Avenue and finishing at the Event Village in the Alexandra Gardens, a particularly scenic route past the Royal Botanic Gardens and the Shrine of Remembrance.

Everybody regardless of age or fitness level is encouraged to join in. The event is even wheelchair accessible and baby strollers are welcomed. Nobody needs to be left home. But this won't just be a great family day out, you'll be helping the YMCA to raise funds to combat the effects of mental illness on young people.
At the Event Village families will be treated to music, kids' activities, free group fitness sessions and good food and drink.
You can register to participate on the website where you will find course maps, information about the day and some interesting blogs to help you prepare. So what are you waiting for, how often does the whole family get to come together for a mountain of fun and a worthy cause to boot.

3. Father's Day Car Show and Market
Come along to Old Gippstown for the Custom and Classic Car Club's 10th Annual Father's Day Car Show. Dad will love looking over these beautifully maintained classic cars. He will be able to chat with the enthusiasts whose heart and soul have gone into preserving the cars and watch the competition winner presentations which begin at 1pm.
Dad may become so enthralled it could be hard to drag him away to the market stalls, rides and other entertainment that make this truly a family day out.
This event is set in the Old Gippstown Heritage Park which is a treat in itself. Old Gippstown features buildings dating from the 1840's to the 1930's many of which have been relocated from their original sites. There is also a splendid collection of horse drawn vehicles and farm equipment and a range of antiques and period artefacts.
Gippsland Heritage Park is at 211 Lloyd Street, Moe around a one and a half hour drive from Melbourne's CBD. The car show runs from 10am on Sunday 4th September. Presentations are at 1pm.
