Get into some school holiday fun
It is school holiday time and there is six weeks of awesome summer fun to plan. Here are my top four fun and educational school holiday activities for this summer.
The City of Salisbury School Holiday Program running from Monday 16 December 2019 to Friday 24 January 2020 is massive and offers a full range of activities exploring everything from reading to science, craft, games, robotics, animation, construction, outdoor play, movies and circus.
While some activities are free, some cost $5 or $10. Activities are located at the Burton Community Centre, Salisbury Community Hub, Para Hills Community Hub, Ingle Farm Library and Salisbury North Skate Park.
There is so much on offer, there is no need to get bored. There are one or two drop-in sessions but most need registrations. Register at the website or on the number listed.
ZOOcation Care School Holiday Program - Adelaide Zoo
The ever-popular ZOOcation program at Adelaide Zoo is back this school holidays for heaps of school holiday fun.
Treat your 5 (must have spent 2019 at school) to 12 year olds to an Adelaide Zoo ZOOcation. Come along to the Adelaide Zoo from 9 am to 4 pm and spend the day with Conservation Educators getting to know all the animals. The day is filled with fun, adventurous activities, games, animal presentations and quality time with new friends.
The program will run 16 – 20 December, 13 – 17 January and 20-24 January.
This activity books out quickly, so secure your spot now.
SAPOL Road Safety Centre School Holiday Program
Dates: 7 - 17 January 2020
Time: 10 am to 12 pm
Ages: 5 – 8 years
The SAPOL Road Safety Centre, Thebarton Police Barracks, Port Road, Adelaide is a great activity to teach your little ones road safety. Many schools include this program as part of the curriculum however it doesn't hurt to reinforce that learning with the school holiday program.
Participants will experience a two hour classroom session before undertaking some practical on bike learning on the mock roadway. All equipment is supplied and the Centre has a range of bikes to cater for all riders.
The University of South Australia, Mawson Lakes Campus is offering three fantastic planetarium experiences this school holidays for all ages.
The first experience is a one-hour planetarium experience with a full-dome movie. Movies range from Tycho to the Moon, Astronaut, Cosmic Collisions and Wildest Weather in the Solar System.
The second experience is the same as the first with a craft activity where children will either use playdoh (for 4 – 8 year olds) to learn more about the sun and planets while they create their own solar system or assemble and paint a model of the solar system while leaders go through each planet in detail (for 8 year olds).
For an optimum night experience, take a 90 minute full night sky tour with an astronomer. This tour will take you on a journey through the ever-changing constellations focussing on the positions of the planets, different galaxies, nebulae and star clusters. You will also see the full-dome movie and weather permitting, see objects through a professional telescope on the university grounds.
