Led by historian Dr Denis Binnion AM,
WEA Travel 's fully escorted 6-day tour of South Australia's
heartlands is a discovery journey into the stories of our European pioneers. You will learn about the pastoralists, the miners and the farmers as you tour various homesteads and museums.
Departing Adelaide on Sunday the 19th of September 2021, a comfortable coach will drive you to the busy and thriving rural centre of Kadina and then onwards to Moonta. A visit to the Kadina Farm Shed Museum, Moonta Mines Museum and Miners Cottage has been planned for the day. From your picturesque foreshore accommodation, you then travel south to the spectacular and pristine Innes National Park stopping at the historic township of
Inneston .
Your third day will be a trip north to the fishing port of Port Broughton and the multicultural past of Port Pirie. On return to Moonta Bay, you have some free time in Wallaroo to explore its town centre. Travel continues the following day towards Clare where you will spend the next two nights. Along the way, enjoy the wonderfully delicious aspect of the tour with a sumptuous morning tea at Hummocks Station and a relaxed lunch at Bungaree Station.
After breakfast, your coach will head to
Farrell Flat and the historic copper mining township of Burra before stopping at Mintaro and the heritage-listed Martindale Hall where afternoon tea is served. On the drive back to Adelaide, you visit Sevenhill, Watervale and Kapunda.
