Dream State Circus presents ''Fuego Carnal'', running as part of Adelaide Fringe Festival at Gluttony: Empyrean at 9:50pm from February 12th until March 14. Fuego Carnal is a show starring 6 entertainers of Dream State Circus including Steveo Extremeo, The Cat's Meow, Ruth, Pancho Libre, Sophie McGrath, Jacob McGrath and Satya Butterfly.
Steveo Extremeo takes to the stage with a Michael Jackson themed dance, but adds fire manipulation to the routine. Just picture MJ's moonwalk with fires-sticks. As if MJ's routine didn't already steal the audience he goes in a 'Swirling Ring of Fire', Extremo swings a fire-lit rope around his body and in the shape of a ring to the music of Johnny Cash.
While Steveo is distracting the audience The Cat's Meow climbs the roof and ascends on a trapeze swing. Her routine is flawless beautiful moves to music that are quite fast-paced at times. When she quickly flips and catches the trapeze with one foot and hangs there as the audience cheers.
Pancho Libre's hoop routine is like nothing I've ever seen before, yes there is a hula-hoop routine in every circus show, but have you ever seen a man hula-hoop a giant metal ring that could easily fit 10 people inside. He has to run back and forward to get the ring moving fast enough at a height before he can swing his hips around it because its so heavy and 9 times his size. Just when you thought that was incredible he gets inside the ring and swings around the stage, producing a break-dancing like routine in a giant ring.
The show comes to an end with a human aerobatic combination including founding members of Dream State Circus Sophie and Jacob Mc Grath. Its an incredible display of strength on both parts not only is he flipping, holding and twirling her, but shes lifting him.
Its so fast-paced that one wrong move could cause disaster, but its so well rehearsed that they make it look effortless and completely flawless, and just when you think they can't make this any better than it already is they add fire-lit sticks to the lifts.
This show has so many elements and things that have to be seen to be believed. Definitely can't fault it, just wish it went longer, because the audience could've sat there all night. 5/5 Stars
