It's been 9 years since the world was introduced to the kingdom of Arendelle and its long-sheltered young princesses, Elsa and younger sister Anna. The 2013 juggernaut Frozen has since spawned a 2019 sequel, several short films and now, has hit the stage.

Frozen: The Musical%% is the hit Broadway show that has started its Perth season at Crown Theatre and is sure to appeal to fans of the franchise young and old, plus musical theatre enthusiasts alike.

We are introduced to our protagonists, young princesses Elsa and Anna in their early years before the events take a dark turn, leaving the sisters estranged and withAnna never understanding where things went wrong with her older sibling.

Fast forward and we meet up with the girls once again on Elsa's coronation day, when she will take over as queen of the kingdom. It's a big day that sets off a chain of events leading to drama, conflict, snow and a whole lot of ice.

Conquering the role of internally tormented ice queen Elsa is Jemma Rix, best known for her role as Elphaba in the musical Wicked, with Courtney Monsma from Six the Musical as Anna. Australian stage icon Matt Lee provides the comedic relief as Olaf the snowman, the poignant link to a better time in the girls' lives.

Audiences are also introduced to key characters Kristoff, his reindeer Sven, shopkeeper Oaken and Anna's love interest Hans - no spoilers for those unfamiliar with the film, but the little members of the audience sure let their feelings for him be known at the curtain call.

Fans of the movie will recognise seven of the songs originals as largely untouched, with the odd mash-up of lyrics, plus an energetic mix of 12 brand new songs to keep things fresh. The additional songs were written by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, the duo behind the original music and the Academy Award-winning hit 'Let It Go'.

The largely preschool-aged audience waited patiently through favourites 'Do You Want to Build a Snowman' and 'Love is an Open Door', maybe getting a little restless before a truly mesmerising rendition of 'Let It Go' by Jemma Rix. Kids and adults alike chose to sing their lungs out, because you just can't help yourself.

The second half of the production largely follows the narrative of the film, with the team of Anna, Kristoff, Sven and Olaf visiting the trolls, singing along to 'Fixer Upper,' before the final dramatic showdown.

Expect an extra surprise at the end if you're sitting in the lounge seats! It's all about the experience, and this experience, a first for many young theatregoers, didn't disappoint.

Frozen: The Musical is showing at Crown Theatre on selected dates from now until 30th October. Matinee sessions will be held at 1pm Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Ticket prices start from $49.50.

Visitors to the weekday and weekend matinee sessions will find no shortage of little Elsas and Annas - and even adult-sized Elsa and Annas - running around Burswood Theatre, proving the franchise continues to draw in fans at a rapid rate.

Frozen: The Musical is a production for young, old and everywhere in between. This endearing tale adapts perfectly to the stage and will be sure to attract new devotees during its Perth season.
