Frozen 2 is a 2019 American computer-animated musical fantasy film produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios. The film is a sequel to the 2013 film Frozen, which was an enormous success for Disney, grossing over $1.2 billion worldwide and winning two Academy Awards. The anticipation for Frozen 2 was extremely high, and it did not disappoint.

The film takes place three years after the events of the first film and follows the story of Elsa (voiced by Idina Menzel), Anna (voiced by Kristen Bell), Kristoff (voiced by Jonathan Groff), Olaf (voiced by Josh Gad), and Sven as they embark on a journey to uncover the secrets of the past and save their kingdom of Arendelle.

The film opens with a flashback to when Elsa and Anna were young, and their father tells them the story of an enchanted forest that lies to the north of Arendelle, which was once home to the Northuldra tribe. He tells them that his grandfather, King Runeard (voiced by Jeremy Sisto), had built a dam to harness the magic of the forest, but the dam was destroyed in a battle between the Arendellian soldiers and the Northuldra, and the forest was sealed off by a magical mist. The flashback sets the stage for the rest of the film, as Elsa begins to hear a voice calling to her from the forest, and she, Anna, Kristoff, Olaf, and Sven set out to uncover the secrets of the past and save their kingdom.

One of the standout features of Frozen 2 is the music. The film features seven new original songs, all of which are fantastic. The song Into the Unknown, performed by Idina Menzel, is the film's big showstopper, and has become just as iconic as Let It Go from the first film. The other songs in the film are also great, including Some Things Never Change, Show Yourself, and Lost in the Woods. The music was composed by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, who also wrote the music for the first film, and they did an incredible job once again.

The animation in Frozen 2 is also outstanding. The film is visually stunning, with gorgeous landscapes, intricate character designs, and stunning special effects. The attention to detail is impressive, and the animators did a fantastic job of bringing the characters and the world to life.

The character development in Frozen 2 is another strong point. The film focuses heavily on the relationship between Elsa and Anna, and how they have grown and changed since the first film. We see Elsa struggling to understand the voice calling to her, and Anna struggling to keep her sister safe. The film also explores Kristoff's feelings for Anna, and Olaf's growing understanding of the world around him. The characters all feel fully realized, and their journeys are compelling.

The themes of Frozen 2 are also worth discussing. The film tackles some complex ideas, including grief, loss, and identity. Elsa is struggling to understand who she is and where she comes from, and Anna is grappling with the loss of her parents and the weight of responsibility on her shoulders. The film does a great job of exploring these themes in a way that is accessible to children, but still meaningful for adults.

However, one criticism of Frozen 2 is that it is more complicated and darker than the first film, which may make it less appealing to young children. The film deals with some heavy themes, and the plot can be a bit convoluted at times. Some of the humour also feels forced, and Olaf's antics can become grating.

In conclusion, Frozen 2 is a fantastic sequel to the original film, delivering on all fronts with its stunning animation, excellent music, and strong character development. The film successfully expands on the world and characters introduced in the first film, while also tackling complex themes and ideas. While it may be more complicated and darker than the original, Frozen 2 remains a compelling and entertaining film for audiences of all ages. With its impressive box office success and critical acclaim, Frozen 2 solidifies its place as a worthy successor to the beloved original and a highlight of modern Disney animation.
