[SECTION]2013 Winter Festival[/SECTION]



The annual Frost Fest is on again from 30 July to 4 August in the Orange Region. This year's theme, 'historical trails of Orange' has been chosen to celebrate the anniversary of the crossing of the Blue Mountains by Blaxland, Lawson and Wentworth.

This year, Frost Fest is celebrating the cool climate with fascinating historical trails, delightful art exhibitions and awesome musical performances while sampling fantastic food and delicious wine from the Orange regions. With a cosmopolitan of events throughout the week, you'll savour and relish every moment of it.

Located approximately 260km northwest of Sydney, the Orange region covers an area of 7,835 km2 and is home to 54,000 people of which 38,000 live in Orange City. It was named after the Prince of Orange in the mid 1800s. The nearby landmark, Mount Canobolas, is a remarkable feature of the landscape.



[SECTION]Delightful Art Exhibitions[/SECTION]



For art lovers, there are plenty of exhibitions for you.

Check out the Frost Fest Art Exhibition throughout the week. With this year's theme of "Historical Trail of Orange", there is certainly something here for everyone to admire and marvel at. Also open all week is the Art on Anson exhibition where you'll see works by the gifted students of the Anson Street School; Tablelands to Turkey Watercolour Exhibition; and Art Exhibition & Studio Tours. Do you know what to do with recycling materials? Students of Anson Street School certainly do. Come and see the imaginative and original creations made from recycling materials, canvasses and other objects. Unlike the above mentioned exhibitions, this is a special viewing only on Saturday 3 August.

[SECTION]Fascinating Historical Trails[/SECTION]



Uncover a beautiful treasure, Cook Park , Orange's oldest and most stunning parks, and learn about the trees, the gardens, the buildings, the aviary and the conservatory. For something more thrilling and exciting, perhaps try the Orange Cemetery walk and hear stories that will send shivers up your spine. Rug up, wear covered shoes and bring a gold coin for this chilling tour.

For people interested in art, join the curator on a free tour of Orange Health Services Arts Project where you will see Orange Regional Gallery's striking collections, influential cubism, creative weaving well-being sculptures, and the artistic Aboriginal Gathering Space.

A town is not a town without a good old pub. Travel back in time and discover interesting facts on the Orange Historic Pubs Walking Tour which also includes a 2 course lunch at Kelly's Hotel.

Perhaps you might enjoy an excursion with cool wind in your face while riding leisurely to Bloomfield Campus with the Orange Bicycle User Group . Be intrigued by the fascinating historical tour of Bloomfield hospital grounds and treat yourself with an old fashioned Devonshire tea and hot winter soup on your return to Orange Public School Heritage Hall.

In addition to the aforementioned, there are also tours for Cadia Heritage Area as well as tours that run throughout the week including Canobolas 4WD Adventures and Movie Poster Museum & Amusu Theatre Tours.

[SECTION]Awesome Musical Performances[/SECTION]



Apart from the incredible entertainment provided at all sorts of events during Frost Fest, there will be various musical performances for you to enjoy.

Come and warm your soul with chamber music at the Orange Regional Conservatorium; sip and savour vocal music by Jason Owen and Amber Lawrence; and celebrate history with an assortment of Celtic and contemporary acoustic music.

You can bake your own sweet yeast bread with Lesley Russell. It's yummy, it's easy, and it's perfect for a frosty winter day. Or be at Mandagery Creek Farm Kitchen at dinner time ready for some mouth-watering Massaman curry, crumble and homemade ice cream. Chill by the open fire for a night of good food. Whether you're an expert on Pinot Noir or not, don't miss the Pinot Noir Masterclass at Philip Shaw Winery. Discuss the vast selection from around the world including Australia and France and taste these wines accompanied by beautiful Orange produce.

Saturday 3 August will be a busy one with so many food related shenanigans happening. Try out delightful goodies prepared by the Old Mill Cafe at Millthorpe Museum while learning about the region's history; be blown away by Philip Shaw Wine matched with the region's cream of the crop produce for long lunch; or go back in time and indulge in a Downton Abbey themed 3 course dinner. For a different kind of experience, put on a pair of gumboots and go on a truffle hunt with Karyn and her truffle dog Sully. Then tantalise your tastebuds with a five course feast featuring the black truffle coupled with Borrodell wine.

You can also sign up for Simmos 4WD Safaris where you'll search for fresh produce and gold medal wines; snuggle up by the cosy fire at Stockman's Ridge Cellar Door and experience heavenly winter dishes and wines; or be at Small Acres Cyder to warm yourself with a glass of mulled cider, exquisite homemade apple pie and taste their variety of premium cider.

Celebrate Christmas in July at Beekeepers Inn with a delish three course meal by the log fire; enjoy a scrumptious dinner and an exclusive screening of a film about Orange from 1927 at Pastimes in Orange at the Old Town Hall, dress up for Eighteen 70 & Twisted River Wines Recreate 1870 and take a journey to the early days of life in Orange; rug up for a night under the stars at Bonfire Night at Towac Park; and party at the beach at the Highland Heritage Beach Party while indulging on a seafood four course meal.

Parties aside, catch the rural fire services crew at Frost Fest Rural Fire Service Open Day , attend Fabulous Carcoat Museum Open Day , pop in to see Australia's oldest operational picture theatre at Sunday At the Movies , and visit the blacksmith's shop for their demonstration throughout the weekend.
