There are times in life when it can feel, the world's caving in. One of those times is the end of a relationship or marriage. Friends give advice but are they right? Where do you really stand? It's more than a headache. Sometimes it's years of sleepless nights worrying about the future.
And when you do start looking for professional advice the dollar signs flashing before your eyes are terrifying. And that is simply to get basic advice.
Unsurprisingly the future gets put in the "too hard basket."
One place that women can turn to is WIRE which originally stood for ‘Women’s Information and Referral Exchange Inc’. They are the only Victoria-wide free generalist information, support and referral service run by women and gender diverse people, for women and gender diverse people.
They offer FREE sessions on the legal matters involved in separation. The next session called Separation to Settlement is on September 12 2:00 – 3:30 p.m. either in person or online. There is also a Nov session on Tuesday the 14 at the same time.
There will be information on family law and navigating separation. On how to reach an agreement on children and property.
Family Lawyer and Mediator Elisa Turco, from Sage Family Lawyers, will provide information and examine the pros and cons of dispute resolution options.
The session will cover:
Kitchen table’ negotiations — supported and unsupported
Mediation — both with and without lawyers
Collaborative law, and traditional litigation - including lawyer-led negotiations.
WHERE
If you physically wish to attend it is at the Kathleen Syme Library and Community Centre, Faraday Street, Carlton VIC, Australia.
Or via Zoom (Zoom link closer to the date).
