Tonight we headed to Nexus Arts for Louise Blackwell's From Paris With Love. This is fast becoming a Fringe tradition for us after first seeing Louise and her band "The French Set" last year.



First things first, I love Nexus Arts, if you have an opportunity to see a show there do it. If you're an artist with the possibility of performing there, do it. It's a lovely venue, good size, a bar in the theatre, and great sound equipment and stage setup. It's particularly good for cabaret performances such as this one.


After a visit to the bar, we settled into a high table at the back and proceeded to pretend we were in a Paris jazz club.


Louise and her 4 piece band took to the stage shortly after 7 and with the lights down low launched into French Jazz Classic "Paname".

The great thing about Louise is that she shares stories in between the songs, about her time living in Paris or the French artists whose songs she sings. She slips in between French and English, half of the audience clearly understand French, the rest of us nod along simply enjoying the ambience.

I remember last year, being impressed by the band, this year, in a song when one member of the band played 2 instruments at the same time, and another plaid 3 separate instruments (including a violin and a trombone), I remembered why. They are absolutely flawless, experts in their field and a pleasure to listen to and watch.
