Hop into here for a frolicking good feed
Food outlets often have names that don't indicate what they are serving. The Frolicking Frog is one such place and they don't even have French-inspired food apart from chocolate éclairs. They are a bakery café.

The main bill of fare is their pies offering twelve varieties, from the classic beef pie, through to Thai beef, Thai red curry chicken to beef bacon and cheese and more.

You can also get meat or vegetable pasties, quiches and sausage rolls.

Before you get to look at the pie menu behind the counter your eyes and stomach are drawn to the large display cabinet of almost every type of pastries, tarts, slices, and cakes, both small and large, imaginable.

Almost irresistible is a large tray of fruit flans, not to mention an old time favourite of mine, vanilla slices.

How good is this, fruit flans & vanilla slices.

Their coffee machine is kept busy, dispensing take-away or drink in, or drink out if you chose the footpath seating.

The coffee cometh.

It is only a small shop and inside there are only 3 stools along a window bench to enjoy their goodies in-house. Outside there are several tables and chairs in a partitioned area on the wide footpath.

Their main customers are there for take away as I usually am. My favourites are a beef pie and a meat pastie to take home and share half of each. The best of both worlds.

The Frolicking Frog had been operating in Lilydale at the same location since 1980, and current owner Belinda, herself a pastry chef, has been operating there for six years. All their goodies are freshly baked on their premises.

Pastry Chef, Leslie, was very proud to show her creations before being displayed in the shop's refrigerated cabinet. The display cabinet also features readymade sandwiches and rolls for those in a hurry.

If you only come in for a pie, it is easy to forget that with all the other goodies on display.

There are many eateries in Lilydale and there is no better than the Frolicking Frog for pies, so hop in for one.
