Over 750 events at the 2018 Fringe Festival
Fringe World is the biggest box office earner of any arts event in Western Australia. It is also known for being the third largest annual Fringe Festival in the world, delivering over $8.6 million in payments to participating artists!

With such a huge following, it must surely be worth attending several events and seeing many of the fabulous shows that will be held here in 2018.

The 2018 children's programme is jam-packed with things to "delight, inspire and entertain" babies, toddlers, tweens, and teens. Each year, the Fringe show is quite different, having family and children's acts/events unlike anything else on offer in Perth.

The Fringe World CEO won the West Australian of the Year Award for the year in June 2017. Marcus Canning is the Festival founder and CEO, and this Arts and Culture Award was presented at the 2017 Western Australian of the Year Awards ceremony.

Organisers say of the 2018 programme "You can trust Fringe to shake off the borings this summer with a packed program of comedy, circus, cabaret, theatre and more at almost 130 venues throughout our fine city.

The Showman's Fair is the Urban Orchard you know and love, transformed into a complete sensory overload! Here you will have a mini-festival that has live music, and performances as well as a long table dinner.

There will be a Silent Disco in the authentic vintage lion's cage, and there will also be some special surprises here, and these mini-shows are fabulously priced at just $5. Like most of the Fringe hubs, it will be free to enter each night of the Festival and you can even do this before going to one of the other shows.

You can find out more here.

This is an all-time favourite at Fringe World and in 2018 there will be a huge programme with the largest variety of shows at Fringe. Here there are 7 venues, including two "Spiegeltents" and a brand-new Fringe World "Mermaid Show" that will be on during the whole of the festival.

Performing here will be free street performers each night and this will be a fascinating place to stop by for a drink before a show! The Pleasure Garden is right near the Perth Cultural Centre and close to a lot of parking in the City and Northbridge.

This is a new event for Fringe World and it is a pop-up hub which is around the corner from the Pleasure Garden. Here you will find The Edith Spiegeltent, comedy venue The Ramp, and Club Swizzle, which is a fabulous circus act from the creators of La Soirée, and you can see more about Swizzle here.

The Ice Cream Factory is on the corner of Roe and Queen Streets, Northbridge and there will be plenty of parking outside. This promises to be one of the best new venues for Fringe 2018.

You can find out more here.

The Perth city malls will come alive with the most amazing local and international buskers and all of this will be FREE!

It will be right in the heart of the City and there will be circus acts and comedy, plus some huge talent which will be on for three whole days from 2nd to 4th February.

Find out more and see a map here.

Fringe World events for Australia Day start on Friday 26th to Sunday 28th January 2018. There will be a huge range of free as well as ticketed events throughout the City of Perth.

The Pleasure Garden will transform into a children's playground, Little Pleasures, on Saturday and Sunday from 3 pm to 5 pm. This will be a free event to entertain the children and you will be able to sit in cool spots here.

At the Urban Orchard, The Showman's Fair is will be a fabulous place to watch the Australia Day fireworks, and you can see more about what is on here.

At Fringe World you can choose exactly what you want to see and attend and there are venues throughout the metro area. The Perth CBD has a new "Palace Society" programme in some of the venues throughout the King and Queen Streets precinct. There will also be a huge circus tent which will be erected next to Yagan Square, plus The Blue Room's "Summer Nights" programme is a hand-picked theatre and performance whch will be a great event.

Organisers explain that "from Fremantle Royale in Fremantle to the Sunset Veranda in Scarborough, from The Pickled Swan in Midland to Leedypalooza in Leederville, from Rockingham to Rottnest to Funtavia in Geraldton, there's something for everyone and something happening nearby this Fringe!"

In my next article entitled "Programme of Events - Fringe Festival - (Part 2)", I will give you lists of many of the shows and programmes that you can book for, or see for free, so make sure you also check that article out.
