According to Punxsutawney Phil, winter isn't ending anytime soon, but that doesn't mean you have to hibernate until spring. Come out and embrace the cold because it's time for the Festival. (Don't worry, it's not actually outside.) Running from February 24th –March 7th, FRIGID is one of New York's newest and most exciting festivals of independent theatre.

was founded in 2007 and was hailed as "the first festival of its kind to celebrate independent theater" by Backstage.com, for giving uncensored creative freedom and affordable performance opportunities to emerging artists. Now in its fourth year, FRIGID will run 30 different productions in a rotating format in three theatres on the Lower East Side, the Kraine Theater, the Red Room, and UNDER St. Mark's. That's over 150 performances to choose from in just 12 days.

Most shows are under an hour and don't cost more than $10-15 per ticket (with discounts available for Students/Seniors/Military). Check out this year's schedule and click here to buy tickets.

Presenting experimental theatre on the fringe of the mainstream, the festival provides an inexpensive way to discover new works and new artists. And the coolest part (forgive the pun) is how fully committed FRIGID is to supporting the artists, their growth, and their freedom of expression. The festival is unique in that 100% of box office ticket sales go directly back to the artists.

So come out of your cave and support independent theatre at a festival that's sure to be eclectic, affordable, and the cool place to be.
