Winter's here and the footy season is well underway! Gliderol Stadium, home of the Glenelg Football Club and the Tigers now hosts Friday night games under lights. Kicking off at 7.20pm, the SANFL matches are the perfect way to start the weekend and offer a great outing for all ages.
The west end of Gliderol Stadium has a covered stadium – useful in the case of inclement weather, as well as standing space. The east side of the stadium has lawns along the edge of the oval and is reserved as a family friendly area. A sausage sizzle and cool drinks are available here, as well as face painting in club colours - very popular with the kids. Of course, no footy match is complete without dads and kids enjoying a kick of the footy on the oval during the breaks and after the final siren.
Another option for a great meal before the game is to kick the night off at The Holdfast Hotel - or the "Holdy" as the locals like to call it. Situated just over Brighton Road from Gliderol Stadium, this venue offers fine dining as well as a pub where fans can relax and enjoy a few drinks before or after the match.
If you want to leave the car at home the stadium is a short walk from the Glenelg Tram, Brighton Road stop.
