Friday Magic (BTC Youth Production)
#all ">
The Brighton Theatre Company (BTC) has been producing plays for 41 years. With 4 staged plays a year, directed by Victorian directors, BTC produces highly successful and entertaining plays in an intimate 93 seat theatre. Patrons can enjoy extras such as pre-show sherries, a supper after the final curtain and a chance to meet the cast and crew.
The play, Friday Magic, is the first youth show staged at the theatre. The BTC has started a program this year where youth (up to the age of 25) could start pairing with the more experienced Directors, technical crew, and stage crew to hone skills they had been learning at school and university. The formula has proven a great success, and this year a member of the Management Team at Brighton, Pedro Ramos, is directing the play with youth, for youth. The play itself was written by local award-winning playwright Hayley Lawson-Smith.
As Pedros says "
What I love about the show is that we'll have kids in the audience seeing a school, that is also magical, come to life in front of them. But at the same time Hayley Lawson-Smith has written a clever script, and we know adults are going to like this. It has been a lot of fun to put together."
When the big, bad Wolf is the principal of a high school, the only chance to save the school arts program is the new substitute drama teacher – the fabulous Fairy Godfather!
Take all your classic fairy tale characters and flip them on their heads in this magical new comedy that the whole family will enjoy. Will the new ugly duckling student and the school champ get expelled for following their dreams? Can the rebellious, tough-talking princess save the day? Is there ever really such a thing as too much glitter? Could this be the start of 'disruptive theatre'?
Bring the kids, think happy thoughts, and make a wish in this hilarious production that's sure to make you huff and puff from laughing!
All tickets $10.
