A supermarket with so much more than groceries

Frewville Foodland - Voted best in the world.

If you were looking for something interesting and fun to do on the weekend and someone suggested visiting a supermarket, you might think they'd lost the plot. But I can assure you that this is one supermarket that offers so much more than groceries and there is always a reason to linger long after your shopping is done.

Quality products on display

Frewville Foodland was voted the world's best in 2016 and again in 2017, and it's easy to see why. The moment you enter through the doors, you are immersed in an experience unlike any other. The first thing I encountered was an in-store cafe called Mr. Nick's, with a fresh and varied menu. You can order to go or sit and enjoy the vibrant atmosphere.

Bragging rights

Then there is a fresh water station where you can help yourself to a delicious fruit-infused water, or the Juice Bar, where you can order freshly squeezed juices in any combination.

Lots of cheesy goodness

Entering into the shopping area, I was overwhelmed by the abundance of produce on display, from an extensive dairy range with every kind of gourmet cheese you could imagine, to the bakery section with freshly baked bread, cakes, cookies and pretzels, all brilliantly displayed to entice you over.

Plenty of fish

The fish and meat sections boast the broadest range I have seen anywhere and the staff are friendly and chatty, eager to help with any request and to share their knowledge of their product with pride.

Friendly, helpful staff

But what intrigued me most about this store is that there is live entertainment and a seating area within the supermarket – right next to the fresh aromatic fruit and veg section, where you can rest a while, breath in the earthy garden smells and listen to the sounds of a live piano or violin performance, a soft-voiced man singing ballads and strumming his guitar, or even a Mariachi Band on the right day.

Be entertained while you shop

Take your time

I stopped in with a friend while visiting the area, intending to grab a quick drink, but ended up staying for lunch and a chat with the gentleman who was there to entertain the shoppers. I loved the upbeat and contemporary atmosphere of the Frewville Foodland and can only regret that it is so far from where I live, otherwise, I would definitely make it my regular shopping experience.

I am certain Frewville Foodland won national and state awards prior to 2009. I think it is owned by the Chapley Family who own a few Foodland Supermarkets in Adelaide.
