I make no secret of the fact that I have a passion to cook, nor that when I do, I like to cook with the best and freshest ingredients available. So when I go out to shop for my fruit and vegetables, I head down to the Dog Swamp Shopping Centre in Yokine to visit the .

I love this place, the fruit and veg is A-grade quality and the shop always looks amazing. The staff are constantly filling and tiding up the shelves, so much so that it always feels as if you are the first shopper to have entered the store for the day, and it does not seem to matter what time of day it is when you do.

Given the quality of the produce, the prices are very good too, it is true with some items you could go into the supermarket and buy them a little cheaper, but it is false economy when you take into account the amount of cheaper produce you have to throw out if not used within a few days, very important when shopping a week ahead.

Throwing out wilted vegetables is not problem when I shop at Fresh Stop because being as it is a fresher product the day you purchase it; it tends to keep a lot longer in the crisper at home. There is also a fantastic range of organically grown food to choose from, which just as fresh and inviting.

Another thing I like when shopping for oranges, apples and pears, is to be able to taste the fruit before I buy it, so often you buy oranges that look fantastic, only to find later that they are very dry and tasteless or full of pips. Fresh Stop have fresh pieces of fruit peeled and sliced so you can try it before putting it in your basket, so you always know exactly what you are buying.

There is a great salad and herb selection, they stock many hard to find herbs and a great selection of fresh mushrooms too, so if you are cooking something a little different to the norm, chances are you find the exact ingredients you require right here.

Down the other end of the store is a small grocery section with shelfs stocked full of gourmet ingredients, and a Deli with a big range of cold cuts, huge selection of antipasto, glorious cakes and in my opinion, some of the best pies in the city.

It has become a regular feature of our shopping here, to buy a pie from the deli counter, then sit and eat it in the mall before continuing on with shopping or heading home. The only problem with the pies being that they are so good, I find it hard to stop at one. This is probably why you need to get in early on a Saturday before your favourites are sold out.

is located at Shop 1, Dog Swamp Shopping Centre, Wanneroo Road, Yokine, they open seven days a week, which makes life easier for those of us that work full time and have busy lives.
