A boudoir full of all things vintage French
You can't miss visiting French Wish
What started out as a passion has turned into a business – Jane Howlett, owner of French Wish, located in the Foodland shopping Centre in Blackwood loves all things French.
You can't miss it as there is usually a selection of French furniture displayed outside the shop!
When you step inside, you won't be disappointed. It's a little French boudoir packed with a mixture of vintage, retro and shabby chic French items ranging from furniture, glassware and door knobs to jewellery, intricate lace doilies and numerous beautiful and unusual ornaments and knickknacks. There's even some old French coins and numerous French prints and pictures too.
Jane says it's almost like she's giving the pieces she sells a new start in life. "A lot of people come in and reminisce when they see an old clock or lampshade," she says adding that the vintage cutlery and cup-saucer-plate combinations are very popular.
You can also add a bit of 'Oh la la' to your home with an Eiffel tower or a classic Pierrot clown, the little melancholy character usually dressed in black and white whose pain is hidden except for the lone teardrop below his eye.
If you're keen on making your garden into provincial France, in the outdoor section Jane has found a number of wooden French facades, shutters, plant pots, old bird cages and other garden accessories.
You may even spot one of Blackwood's infamous gnomes on sale too…..
Add a bit of French chic style to your garden
The stock regularly changes each week – but if you happen to pop in on Tuesdays, you'll get an added bonus as little Ryssa, the orphaned red kangaroo is helping Amanda on that day. Ryssa is currently around six month's old and while she is currently tucked up in a little bag, she may grow to over 180cm.
French Wish's newest assistant!
Jane found Ryssa near Yunta and with no mum in sight, she's taken her in. This is the second kangaroo Jane has adopted; her first kangaroo, 'Vail' is now two years old and was a frequent visitor to the shop until he got too big.
