Elegant High Tea in a suburban French patisserie

Three tiers of delicious decadence

Calling all high tea enthusiasts and cake connoisseurs, this little cafe is definitely worth a visit. I had been to French & Mor Cafe for morning tea on several occasions and was keen to try their "French High Tea" for a special birthday treat. The French High Tea is a collaboration between the local Le Bon Choix Patisserie and T2 teas, and it begins with a choice of twenty teas, ranging from "Gorgeous Geisha" to "Choc Chip Chai", served of course in your own personal tea pot.

Sweet treats galore

Once we selected our T2 tea (or coffee, if you prefer), we admired all the Oriental Lillies dotted around the cafe which were also for sale. The arrival of our three tiered high tea cake stand was met with the appropriate ooohs and ahhhs as we spotted the array of goodies before our eyes. High tea etiquette states that one begins to taste the treats at the bottom and works up the subsequent layers, so that is exactly what we did.

My tasting plate - yum

The lowest layer included smoked salmon and cream cheese spirals, classic cucumber and chicken ribbon sandwiches, an almond croissant, and a cherry Danish. This was all very delicious and washed down well with my pot of tea and much laughter in between.

The middle layer included sweet and gooey gauteaux (cakes) and petit fours from Le Bon Choix Patisserie and on the top most layer we enjoyed a caramel macaron, a Napoleon (a miniature dish of raspberry and citrus coulis with marsapone cream) and a fruit blast (mango and passionfruit puree with strawberry juice, served in a shot glass). By the time we reached the top layer, our bellies were very satisfied, so the lighter samples provided a welcome finale to our wonderful high tea experience.

French & Mor's High Tea is a lot of food and a lot of fun, but just remember to work up a substantial appetite. I highly recommend it as a different way to celebrate a special occasion. The French High Tea costs $38 per person, and bookings are definitely required in advance. They also offer Children's/Teen's High Teas for $25. You can drop in to the cafe for a quick brunch quiche or breakfast croissant anytime you like. Bon Appetit.

Looks extremely filling and delicious. I'm surprised how many sweet treats there were, especially the croissants, which fill you up right from the start.
