On the last Friday of every month
Alliance Française de Brisbane hosts French Film Friday.
The films have English subtitles and entrance to the Film Friday is free.
The film for this month is "Populaire", a favourite of the Alliance Française French Film Festival.
It is a French romantic comedy directed by Régis Roinsard.
This delightful film is a sparkling homage to classic Hollywood romantic comedies.
Set in the late 1950's, Populaire's heroine is Rose Pamphyle (César Award winner, Déborah François), a girl who lives with her widowed father, but yearns for so much more than the aimless life her inevitable marriage to the local mechanic's son promises.
Travelling out of her small town in Normandy in search of a job, she is interviewed by an insurance agent: the suave, driven Louis Échard (Heartbreaker, Romain Duris), who discovers she possesses an unworldly ability to type. Once a gifted boxer and runner, Louis now becomes Rose's coach and soon begins preparing her for the world speed typing championships in New-York. Populaire is the romantic tale of a man, a woman and the typewriter that binds them. Watch the trailer below
