The auditorium is silent and you could hear a pin drop. Suddenly, a spotlight falls on a tightrope high above your head and music fills the space. Then, a figure emerges, tentatively crossing the tightrope. The excitement and anticipation of a circus.
But this is no ordinary circus. This is the acclaimed Circa which is joining together with the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra and French soprano Claire Lefilliātre for a unique and breathtaking collaboration like no other. This is circus that moves the heart, mind and soul.
While the orchestra performs atmospheric French baroque music, including works by Rameau and Lully, Circa artists perform in the space above and around you with brilliant light effects transforming the auditorium and bathing the stage in moonlight. French soprano Claire Lefilliātre's pure voice will transport you to another time and the contorting and acrobatic figures that emerge around her will transport you to another place.
The production is an immersive, operatic scale performance exploring the eternal tensions between heaven and earth, the sacred and profane, night and day. You'll be taken on a journey through heaven and earth and will enjoy a truly remarkable body of work which is reminiscent of the romance and glamour of French baroque.
