Free Yoga @ lululemon atheletica

A popular yoga clothing and accessories store on George Street actually runs free yoga classes every Wednesday morning from 7:15am-8:15am. lululemon athletica is right near Wynward train station, and rather close to Martin Place.

I was one of the brave souls who managed to conquer the cold weather yesterday morning to enjoy some spiritual flow. After all the word 'yoga' is sanskrit for union. With the yoga held in a retail outlet at the city's busiest street, with an abundance of buses flocking by in both directions, you'd be forgiven for thinking that this is too noisy. It couldn't be further from the truth.

There is no need to bring your yoga mat, yet you're advised to wear your yoga clothes underneath your winter clothing for easy pop on and off in advance. This is where it is so cool to be allowed to wear Jeans into the office any time of the week. Well, I am full-time writer after all.

The turnout was amazing. To be quite honest I was expecting less people, yet there were a few empty mats around. People just tended to resonate towards and at the back of the store, so I joyfully took one of the front spots near Yan Yan (our allocated teacher) with a mirror reflecting from the changing room starting right back at me.

You might be wondering what happens with your valuables should you wish to check this great experience out? Great point. Your valuables, shoes and clothing are stored on the left hand side as you enter the store, and is quite safe there despite being closer to the street scape than you are.

Once again, despite being at street level on a busy street, you tune out from buses and ambulance sirens quite quickly. Sydney is a rather busy and noisy city. You are treated to a full hour of flow on the house, and the power vinyasa yoga technique is enjoyed with a few forward folds and rag dolls to warm you up.

Now the honeymoon is over as you begin to delve deep into your practise, and Yan Yan doesn't even need to use a microphone. Her voice is self confident and fully projected across the room. Expect some forward push ups (ouch at times, I know. I was rather stiff in my legs and arms that morning yet I got there. This can be the case early in the morning) and downward and upward dogs in constant motion. Because of my stiffness, there were times (despite being present in my own body) that I was really wanting shivasana (in other words, the dessert of pure relaxation) to come, and it did come at the end. Some balance work, bridges and happy babys were also included. Namaste greetings to finish off this great class.

Free yoga, now that's awesome.

Am amazing class, and it is so amazing that it is free. A great way to check out yoga before taking the plunge and committing to a gym membership or bikram yoga. It is advisable to get there at least 10-15 minutes early in order to secure a good spot. I arrived five minutes early and I was right at the front. Namaste.
