As someone said to me,'It is the Year of the Pig and I am going to have a great year gorging myself.'

Well, Melbourne Central is getting us all off to a flying start by offering super cute pig-themed treats from the 5th - 10th February 2019 (starting at 10am) as well as a gorge yourself dumpling challenge and yes this is also free.

The cute pig-themed sweets treats are available on the following days. As long as you follow a couple of easy instructions. These are:

1. Follow Melbourne Central on Instagram (@melbournecentral) or WeChat (Melbourne Central)

2. On the day of your treat go to Guest Services desk on Level 1 and show that you're following Melbourne Central to claim your free treat token. This is on Level 1, Melbourne Central, Corner La Trobe and Swanston Streets, Melbourne.

Then collect your treat from the following outlets.

Tuesday, 5 February 2019 - Free Year of the Pig Cupcake from Cupcake Central

Wednesday, 6 February 2019 - Free Year of the Pig Cookie from Gingerbread Corner

Thursday, 7 February 2019 - Free Year of the Pig Doughnut from Walker's Doughnuts

Friday, 8 February 2019 - Free Year of the Pig Cupcake from Cupcake Central

Saturday, 9 February 2019 - Free Year of the Pig Cookie from Gingerbread Corner

Sunday, 10 February 2019 - Free Year of the Pig Doughnut from Walker's Doughnuts

Oh, and they are all so cute.

Of course, it is only while stocks last. But it is one treat per person, per day which means you could have six consecutive days of treats which is great if you happen to work or study in the city.

Dumpling Challenge

As well as the sweet treats Lilong Melbourne invites dumpling lovers for its first-ever dumpling challenge.

To ensure your place you should register to join and see how fast you can demolish twenty dumplings.

It's totally free as you go head to head with fellow dumpling lovers to battle it out. There are rounds with a winner for each round.

The prize is an $88 Lilong voucher to treat you and your mates to a Chinese feast. Although if you win I think you will need time to recover before you take up that prize.

This event is on Tuesday 5 February at Lilong by Taste of Shanghai on Level 3, Melbourne Central.

Get there early to guarantee your place in the challenge, which kicks off at 4:00 pm. Or a safer bet is to register here to jump the queue.

For other great Chinese/Lunar New Year events in Melbourne head over Crown for a host of FREE shows, a hawkers market and fire breathing dragons. Click here. There are also a host of free celebrations on in the suburbs and likely in a suburb near you. Click here.
