1. Outside In Cinema Every Wednesday night from April 24th - September 25th, head to the State Library of Victoria for a season of free cinema screenings, starting at 6:30pm, at Experimedia, enter via Swanston Street. Bring your own snacks and non-alcoholic drinks, relax in a deckchair and win great prizes. All films shown are donated to the Library's collection.
2. The Light in Winter
From June 1st – 30th, head down to Federation Square and celebrate Melbourne's diverse cultural and artistic life with The Light in Winter. Each year, artists, designers and community members transform the main courtyard of Federation Square, into an outdoor art gallery, free for everyone to enjoy. Other free events include film screenings, forums, and the much loved Solstice Celebration, this year held on Saturday June 22nd from 5-8pm.
3. Docklands Winter Fireworks Every Friday night in July, visit Docklands Waterfront to see a colourful 10 minute fireworks display, accompanied by music, beginning at 7pm. A fun event for young and old, with best viewing points along Waterfront City Promenade. Afterwards, enjoy dinner and/or drinks at one of the many delightful restaurants.
4. Open House The highly popular and award winning Open House Melbourne returns on the weekend of July 27th – 28th. Over 100 historical buildings, including places of worship, museums, underground tunnels, creative workspaces, contemporary architecture, and television studios, will open their doors to the public for free access, providing an opportunity to discover and celebrate the city and its world class architecture and design. The complete list of open buildings will be released on June 19th.
