You can indulge in waterplay the safe way. Mum or Dad can be in the water watching their babies or young children. Waterplay has been invented as an educational event for parents who want to get their babies and children used to being in the water.
This is a free community event and is open to babies from two to four months of age. Waterplay is a safe way to introduce your baby to water. The free community program will be led by qualified swimming instructors. This will be a time for parents to understand what they can expect from future swimming lessons and it will also show the parent whether their child is ready for the pool.
Waterplay is the perfect aquatic playgroup - a place which is both fun and educational. It will also teach your child to socialise as you will be able to do with the other parents. Waterplay also puts emphasis on educating us as parents as well as getting babies used to being in the water. The staff also encourage parents and their child to have fun together and this will be in a safe environment.
First off parents will learn how to gently get the child used to the water and then learn how to swim. They will also learn how to safely and correctly hold a baby in water. There are three foundation holds including:
Each of these holds is practised and demonstrated during the lesson. Waterplay always has one parent per baby in the water at a time and the maximum in each class is 16. These sessions are free of any commitment and are flexible sessions. The atmosphere before the lesson is always very relaxed and casual.
The aquatic playgroup will be held on Wednesday 20th February and Wednesday 27th February. They will be a 30-minute session starting at 12 noon. It will be held at the Lane Cove Aquatic Centre, 2 Little Street, Lane Cove.
For each session, there will be two fully qualified swimming instructors who will lead the sessions. Both instructors will be dedicated to partnering with the parents in the water education of their child. The team of swimming instructors and coaches are all professionally qualified and have been chosen based on several things. These include their knowledge, teaching skills, ability to communicate and build rapport with your child.
