The first Saturday of every month in Melbourne will never be the same thanks to Cumulus Up. The City Cellar Door located just above Cumulus Inc., the popular eating house and bar by Andrew McConnell is serving up delicious tastings of Victoria's wines paired with roast suckling pig buns.
Cumulus Up's series of monthly events till November serves up free tastings of some of the state's premier wine regions. A selection of 6 to 8 wineries and their makers from a different region in Victoria are showcased each month. Some of the boutique winemakers do not have an onsite cellar door so Cumulus Up's City Cellar Door & Wine Market offers you the rare opportunity to chat with the vignerons and sample their wines.
The relaxed atmosphere is excellent for a Saturday afternoon of catching up with friends from 12pm to 4pm over glasses of incredible wine. The Cumulus Up kitchen will roast a whole suckling pig, to be portioned into sizable pork buns.
They are not the crunchy pork belly sandwiches from EARL Canteen but each bite still delivers juicy mouthfuls of tender pork nicely balanced with acid from the slaw and mayo. An excellent bite between wines for $10.
A selection of vineyards from the Yarra Valley showcase some of their top wines on 5 July. There were excellent Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from Yarra Yering, Dappled and Warramate Wines. The regions featured in the following monthly installments include Geelong & Gippsland (2 August), Macedon Ranges (6 September) and Mornington Peninsula (8 November).
Macedon Ranges' wineries include Knight Granite Hill, Curly Flat, Athletes of Wines, Cobaw Ridge and Bindi. You can taste Mornington Peninsula wines from Garagiste, One Block, Allies, Dexter Wines, Principia and Scorpo. Biodynamic and organic wines from Sutton Grange, Avani, Jasper Hill, Ngeringa and Frankland Estate will also be featured on 4 October.
Entry to the Cumulus Up's City Cellar Door & Wine Market and all the wine tastings are FREE. You can purchase your favourite wines directly from the makers at cellar door prices on the day. So make a date with Cumulus Up on the first Saturday of each month. With a glass of some of the region's top boutique wineries in one hand and a juicy pork bun in the other, you'll be making new friends in no time.
