Break the fun factor without breaking the bank
Newcastle is a great place to take the family - and with lots of fun things to do that are absolutely free, a trip won't cost the bank either!
Newcastle Museum We spent a whole day at the Museum - the kids loved Minninova and Supernova - dedicated family spaces where little ones can interact, play and learn. There is also a fabulous sound and light display depicting the history of the steelworks previously in town.
Hit the Beach Pick one of the stunning beaches for a day of sun, sea and sand
Don't miss a visit to what must be one of Australia's biggest slides! This all ability playground sits on the shore of beautiful Lake Macquarie and has lots of time for fun and green space for play or picnics.
Newcastle Art Gallery Free entry for all - visit on the weekend to join in one of the family-friendly art and craft workshops.
Bike and Scooter Trails Try the Tramway Track or the Fernleigh Track for a leisurely pace.
Blackbutt Reserve A free nature reserve and wildlife walk - follow the boardwalk suspended in the rainforest and look down on wombats, koalas and lots of birdlife. There are also weekend shows (small fee)
On the weekends, you can enter the lighthouse and climb to the top.
