With spring nearly here the days are getting warmer, and people are thinking of doing things outdoors again. I can tell - my readership drops in the middle of winter while everyone stays indoors!
But as August peters out there's still time to catch its last free things to do in Adelaide's CBD. The
SALA Festival finishes on August 24, and you can catch free activities for kids and toddlers at
A Little Day Out in Victoria Square on August 30, or
enjoy Chesslife free family entrtainment on North Terrace on August 31.
If you went to the August
Fork on the Road did you think about contributing so the
future Forks remain free ?
Fans of family history have until the end of August to take advantage of the State Library's
free events to help you trace your ancestors, or you can get help at Genealogy SA's free
Open Day .
Also at the end of August is the
Gawler Show - it's not a free event but Adelaide kids love the fun things to do.

The
Moon Lantern Festival is on a Monday this year, but many schools will be joining in the fun activities for kids in Elder Park during the afternoon. Luckily if you're working the Moon Lantern Parade doesn't start till dusk, and is followed by a magnificent fireworks display.
We're remembering the centenary of the start of World War 1 this year, and there's a free historical re-enactment to commemorate the raising of South Australia's First AIF contingent. It's being held at the Morphettville Racecourse and in Glenelg - find out
more here .
Fitness lovers will want to take advantage of the free
Breathe Adelaide yoga festival in Victoria Square, while if you weren't sated by the SALA Festival check out this
free art exhibition at Willunga.
Coinciding with the Bay to Birdwood Run on September 28, the Federation of Historic Motoring Clubs is holding its
Motorfest 2014 . There's a mix of free things to do in Adelaide and surrounding areas, together with some events where you will need to pay.

This year the
OzAsia Festival highlights our sister state Shandong Province in China, and brings a huge choice of what to do in Adelaide this month. Free workshops and activities for kids compete with pricier performances, and even a glamorous feast hosted by celebrity chefs.
Of course September in Adelaide would not be complete without the
Royal Show , and Adelaide kids have the chance to
watch pigs put on some prize performances too.
A much more soothing sound for the ears is available from a
series of organ concerts in the Barossa
The National Railway Museum is holding a special weekend event - the
Steampunk Expo which will appeal to more than just railway fans. There are special displays including the brilliant
Archer's Arcadia , and entry fees are discounted too.
Trains aren't your thing? How about a
Father's Day sail on the One & All? Or just wander the One & All on
an Open Day .
It's nearly time to plant summer vegie crops again, and the Diggers' shop in the Botanic Gardens has
some workshops to help you get it right. Less active gardeners may prefer to check out the Wirrapunga Gardens
Open Days .
Literary types should head for the hills for
Langhorne Creek's Writer's Festival , try a trivia night
fundraiser , or learn the
art of the entrepreneur .
Finish up by having a laugh with the
Golden Phung at the Star Theatre.

While I like to sprinkle my guide on what to do in Adelaide with lots of outdoor fun things to do such as
Nature Play , one of our new writers has recognised that we have a few bar flys among us. Check out her guide to Adelaide's
Best Known Little Bars , although I notice that she hasn't found the
Jade Monkey yet!
Laneway Learning Adelaide also wants to entice you inside cafes and bars for inexpensive training courses on a variety of topics. But if you prefer to be outdoors as spring wakens our parks, check out
amber's nature trail Amber's Trail in the Black Hill Conservation Park.
Nature Play Week in South Australia is coming soon, running from September 27 until October 4. Nature Play helps to keep kids healthier and happier by encouraging families to get outdoors, enjoy the natural environment, and find activities for kids that stimulate their senses. Look out for a range of free events and activities coming during Nature Play Week.
City of Salisbury residents even get their own local special week called
Salisbury Plays - look out for more information here and on the City of Salisbury website.
On the odd rainy day, come with me on a trip down memory lane to explore the
Lost Icons of Adelaide . Do you agree with them - if not, please add your choice to the list.
